Event Name: Winelands Cycle RaceWhen: 22/01/2023Where: , Wellington, Wellington, Western CapeCategory: RoadThe Winelands Cycle Race consists of two races starting and ending at Hugenote Primary School in Wellington. The long race (102 km) is for more experienced riders and is a seeding race for the Cape Town Cycle Tour 2023. Entry is R350. It starts in Wellington, taking riders via Riebeek Kasteel and Paardeberg back to Wellington. The short race (52 km) for less experienced riders travels along the R45 towards Malmesbury, and merges with the long race on Slent Road, Paardeberg. Entry is R260. On returning to the school there will be medals for the finishers, refreshment stalls, a bike park and a lucky draw. Go to Event Page.
  2. Entries are now open for the annual Winelands Cycle race on Sunday 30 January. The race will start and finish at Huguenot Primary in Wellington. It will be an excellent race to help you gear up and improve your seeding for the Cape Town Cycle Tour 2022. There will be two races, with online registration, timing and seeding by RaceTec, under the auspices of the Pedal Power Association. The races will start in General Hertzog Boulevard and from there cyclists can travel on two routes in the rural area. The first race over 112km starts at 06:00 (entry fee is R280, PPA members R260). It is for more experienced riders and will be a seeding race for the Cape Town Cycle Tour. The route takes riders to Hermon, Riebeek West and Malmesbury and then back to Wellington on a circular route around the Paardeberg. The second race, over 86 km, is also a seeding race for the CTCT. It starts at 07:00 (entry fee R260, PPA members R240). Riders follow the same route via Hermon and Riebeek West, but cut out the detour via Malmesbury. The closing date for on-line entries is Monday 25 January 2022 at 09:00. Please note that, due to Covid, entries are limited to 1500 riders. An online Covid form must be filled in beforehand.   3. From the organisers, Paarl Rotary: We are sorry that the weather conditions were not favourable yesterday for cycling. We were advised that we would not receive a permit to hold the race if we provided any food and beverage stands at the finish. We did have coke supplying cans of free drinks at the finish. With regard to medals: we had no time to manufacture medals as we received approval from Western Cape Dept. of Health only 1 week before the race. We will consider other parking areas for future races when it is raining, to prevent people from getting stuck in the mud. ยท
  4. The Winelands Cycle Race has been selected as an official seeding partner for the Cape Town Cycle Tour 2021. The race will be held in Wellington on Sunday 5 September. This will be an excellent race to help you gear up and improve your seeding for the Cape Town Cycle Tour in October. The Winelands race route of 97.2 km will take cyclists from Huguenot Primary in Wellington via the scenic Bovlei to Hermon and Riebeek Kasteel and back along the Malmesbury road. Online registration, timing and seeding will be done by Racetec, under the auspices of the Pedal Power Association. Online entries can be done at www.racetec.co.za at R260 (non-PPA entries R280). Online entries will close on Monday 30 August at 09:00. Late entries and registration can be done on Friday 3 September at Bicycle Garage, Laborie Centre, Paarl from 14:00 to 17:00 and on Saturday 4 September from 10:00 to 15:00 at Chris Willemse Cycles, Willowbridge, or at the Cape Town Cycle Tour/Racetec office at 65 Ave De Mist, Rondebosch (also 10:00 to 15:00). Late entries cost R280 (R300 for non-PPA members). No late entries are allowed on race day. All Covid protocols will be followed with cyclists starting in small groups. Masks must be worn before and after the race. Proceeds of the race go to Paarl Rotary projects focusing on early childhood and youth development. Event Name: Paarl Cycle Tour When: 2 February 2020 Where: Fairview wine estate, Western Cape Category: Road The annual Paarl Cycle Tour on Sunday 2 February will bring more than 1500 cyclists to Paarl. The event, organised by the Rotary Club of Paarl, will start at a new venue, scenic Fairview wine estate, for the first time. It will be a seeding race for the Cape Town Cycle Tour 2020 and is held under the auspices of the Pedal Power Association (PPA). There will be three races, with online registration, timing and seeding by RaceTec. The races will start at Fairview, on the western slope of Paarl Mountain, and from there cyclists can travel on three routes in the rural Agter-Paarl/Klipheuwel area. The first race over 97.8km starts at 06:00 (entry fee is R280, PPA members R260). It is for more experienced riders and will be a seeding race for the Cape Town Cycle Tour. The second race, over 71.9 km, starts at 07:00 (entry fee R260, PPA members R240). The third race, over 46.6 km, starts at 08:00 (entry fee R220, PPA members R210). The closing date for on-line registration is Monday 27 January 2020 at 12:00. Cyclists will take off in a northerly direction from the entrance of Fairview (this section of road will only allow for north-bound traffic on race day). Participants coming from Wellington will have to travel via Paarl or via Klapmuts (R44) to reach Fairview. The races will finish on the Old Paarl Road (R101) near the turn-off to Fairview. Thereafter cyclists return to the wine estate, where there will be a variety of food and beverage stalls as well as music and kiddiesโ€™ entertainment. There will also be a bike park, so that you can lock your bike, relax and enjoy the festivities and the lucky draw. Another feature will be trailer rides to neighbouring Spice Route, where there is a playpark for kids. Prior booking is recommended for the restaurants at Fairview and Spice Route (Sundays are particularly busy). Race numbers can be collected at ASG Paarl in the Laborie Centre in Paarl on 1 February from 08:30 to 10:30 or at Chris Willemse Cycles at Willowbridge on the same day from 12:00 to 15:00. Late entries are accepted on race day at Fairview from 05:00 (late entry fees are R320 for the first race, R300 for the second race and R260 for the third race). Event Name: Paarl Cycle Tour When: 3 February 2019 Where: De Poort, Pine Street, Paarl, Western Cape Category: Road The Bouckaert-Soenen Paarl Cycle Tour on Sunday 3 February starts at De Poort heritage centre in Pine Street, Paarl South. The race is organized by the Rotary Club of Paarl and held under the auspices of the Pedal Power Association (PPA) and Racetec. There will be a long route of 102 km that goes to Wellington, Voor-Paardeberg and Klipheuwel before returning to Paarl; the medium route of 70 km follows the 102 km route but cuts out the Klipheuwel section; the short route of 45km is essentially a ride around the base of Paarl Mountain. This event is family friendly and will offer food and drink stalls as well as a Kidzone to give parents a break. The first 25 km are common to all three routes where riders follow undulating roads through vineyards, fruit & olive orchards over the N1 through Wellington to the R44/R45 4way-stop. Here the Short route continues straight to Windmeul and the Medium & Long routes turn right onto the R45 and into the wheatlands where they turn left onto Voor Paardeberg. The Medium route turns left onto Paardeberg Road down a steep downhill towards the R44 where they turn right joining the short route again. The Long route continues straight to the Boerfontein intersection where they turn right onto Vryguns and then left onto the R302, towards Klipheuwel, with another left turn onto Slent that takes the riders back to the Boerfontein intersection. The Boerfontein "loop" will provide fast group riding experience. After turning right at Boerfontein the riders will meet up with the Short and Medium riders at the right onto the R44 at Windmeul for the home leg turning left onto the Suid Agter Paarl road, past Spice Route and Fairview, for the last left turn onto the R101 to finish at the Strawberry King. The cut-off date for online pre-entries is Monday 28 January (11:00) on www.paarlrotary.co.za/cycle-tour , www.racetec.co.za or www.pedalpower.org.za . Pre-registration and late entries can be done on Saturday 2 February at ASG Cycling, Laborie Centre, Paarl (09:00-11:00) and at Chris Willemse Cycles, Willow Bridge (11:30-15:00). Event Name: Backsberg Dis-Chem Rotary MTB When: 19 August 2018 Where: Backsberg wine estate, Western Cape Category: MTB The family friendly annual Backsberg Dis-Chem Rotary MTB race is presented by Paarl Rotary on Sunday 19 August. Event Name: Bouckaert-Soenen Road Cycling Challenge When: 4 February 2018 Where: De Poort, Paarl, Western Cape Category: Road The annual Bouckaert-Soenen Road Cycling Challenge on Sunday 4 February will bring thousands of cyclists to Paarl. The event, organised by the Rotary Club of Paarl, is held under the auspices of the Pedal Power Association (PPA) and starts at De Poort heritage centre in Pine Street. The races take place on country roads around Paarl Mountain. The 123 km race will form part of the 2019 Official Premier Seeding Series of the Cape Town Cycle Tour. Although the longer race is for more experienced riders, the short race is a fun-ride event aimed at the whole family. Various food stalls will offer tasty treats for sale and there will also be a Kidzone to keep the kids busy. No participants under 16 on the long route. No children u.14 on the medium route. Children u.12 will be allowed on the short route and must be accompanied by an adult at all times. All proceeds from the races will be channeled through Paarl Rotary towards early childhood development projects. Go to Event Page

Event Name: Bouckaert Soenen Paarl Road Race When: 5 February 2017 Where: De Poort, Pine Street, Paarl South, Western Cape Category: Road ROUTE DESCRIPTIONS From Paarl, cyclists in the 124 km route will pedal past Wellington, Hermon and Riebeeck-Kasteel with a tough climb over Botmaskop. After the descent, the route turns back to Paarl before doing a loop in the Voor-Paardeberg area and returning to the venue. The 72 km route cuts out the Hermon loop and joins the long route at the Sonop/Klipheuwel turn-off to Voor-Paardeberg. The 47 km route goes around Paarl Mountain and has no serious climbs. It joins the other routes at the Windmeul Winery. 47 km Vliegdag Vintage Race: Join us with your vintage bike and experience the freedom and thrill of cycling from a bygone era. Participants must enter with any pre-1999 steel road racing bicycle. Normal 47km route.NB: Children u/12 may only ride the short route ride and must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Event Name: Bouckaert Soenen Paarl MTB When: 4 February 2017 Where: Afrikaans Language Monument, Paarl Mountain, Western Cape Category: MTB ROUTE DESCRIPTIONS 37 km start with a 1 km climb and has tough gradients with single track and a compulsory portage section and is recommended for experienced cyclists only. 24 km start with a tough 4.5 km climb but the route cuts out the worst climbs of the long route. 15 km untimed start with a tough 4.5 km climb and circle Paarl Rock via Christmas Camp, Meulwater and back to the Venue via Jan Phillips Drive and is aimed at intermediate beginners.NB: Children u/12 may only ride the short route ride and must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Food and drinks stalls. Bring the Family and a picnic basket along for a fun day! Jungle Gym for Kids. Lots of shade.
