  1. Hello Hubbers, I've been looking through the forums and can't seem to find a definitive answer to the problems I face. Sooo... Firstly Shoes... I have a budget of 2k for my shoes. I would really like something that has the boa system because i think its frikken awesome but please let me know if its any good. So basically what is a good shoe in the 2k range? Should I get something like a first ascent torque 2 or an flr f55 or something shimano... or should I save up and get the Specialized Expert? Have also seen the Fizik m5 boa, those are also cool, but again is it the best in this price range. I am leaning toward the Giro Cylinder because it has get boa system and it looks pretty awesome, but are the shoes good? So basically I'm just trying to find out whats a good brand to go with for quality and value for the money that I end up spending. Also, where are the good shops in Johannesburg that I can shop at for good deals? Secondly pedals, I want to ride trail as well as start doing some good distance on the road... I want to go clipless and I have found pedals for sale on the hub that I will get... I just want to know which is better between the Shimano m520 and the m530... Is the extra cage on the 530 better? Thank you, any advice will be greatly appreciated. Apologies for the essay
  2. Yup, entries are still open... Just started on my bike like a month ago... Heard about this race and have been having serious fomo So I entered today to do the 22km. Hope it's good. There's alot of hype around this event. Didn't want to wait another year to do it.
  3. I wouldn't know what works best just yet... But currently I ride with the standard pedals and trainers and its pretty good. I just want to switch to cleats, so will hopefully buy gear soon, but yeah will most probably opt for the cheaper options. I was advised to get my tire repair things first tho.
  4. I bought the wireless ryder one, the cheap one thats like 299... Just had problems with it not working, returned it and am just tracking with the Apple Activity App, its also pretty cool for now. Planning to get a cateye, heard that those are good.
  5. Hey There I'm Also a newbie... Been going through the same struggles... So knew absolutely nothing a month ago, but feel a bit knowledgeable now. Couldn't for the life of me decide on a bike, ended up getting the Titan Expert 29er from Cycle lab... It was on special, fetched it at R7999 and the guys did the tubeless conversion for free and the service was awesome. I rate it would be worth your while to check if the bike is still on special and in stock because it comes with hydraulic breaks as well as an air shock, remote lockout and tubeless ready tires. It also looks great and is awesome to ride. I just got a cool first ascent helmet from sportsman's for the 25% discovery discount and a cheap bike cage, a pair of shorts from MrP sport for R279 then got a pair of gloves for R150 from linden cycles(was insanely difficult to find nice looking gloves, especially cheap ones) and yeah was on my way, will start stocking up on things like tire repair things and bombs soon. Just a tip... taking the wheels off and putting it in the car is a mission(Did it three times and I couldn't take it), I drive a little polo, I opted for a roof rack because it seemed the best option, and i found a great deal on the hub, the bike feels secure on the roof and the drive is good(Thule wingbars and a proride), I was worried about damage from the boot racks and didn't want to fit a tow bar. The roof rack is awesome, I would recommend it any day, its really just hassle free. But all in all, good luck, have fun, R20k is a lot but it starts to add up slowly... I said to my girlfriend that im never going to spend more than 5k on a bike... ended up buying one for 8k, then I said that I'm not going to spend more than 1.5k on transportation... yup the roof rack fitted came to 4k was set on spending 10k in total but I added up yesterday and just reached the 15k mark and I still want all these nice things especially shoes and pedals But the moral of it all is, I've spent a load, it still hurts a bit... but I wait in anticipation for Sunday to throw my bike on the car and hit the trails, its just so fun... Makes it worth it
  6. How do you know?
  7. Yes this is my current plan, train up a bit then ride with a friend at the cradle and do the +-50s. But yes the goal is just to finish.
  8. Hello Hubbers, I have been trying to figure out what the general consensus is on riding a mountain bike in a road race. So I am still new to cycling, I recently bought a Titan 29er. I have been hitting the trails and I'm really enjoying it. However, I would really like to train up to ride the 94.7 this year, it's just one of those things that I want to do. I would also look at doing a shorter road race for some experience before I attempt the 94. So would it be alright for me to enter my bike as is? And would a whole lot of training on trails be alright to build up my endurance? I couldn't find any posts on the hub with any advice on this. Any advice will be appreciated. Also, is it true that it is better to ride with a charity group as a newbie as you would start at an earlier time?
  9. Thanks for the notification ???? didn't realise the picture was posted ???? yup that's me????????
  10. looks so good but is just so expensive
  11. My main worry is... Can the rack just be stolen off the car?
  12. I was actually looking at this brand now, as I am also looking for a rack for my GTI... Is it easy on the paint work?
  13. Yeah they did the conversion for free But heres the funny part... so yesterday I took the bike out not realising that the rear tire would be low on air... I mean it was my second time riding it... As i take the bend the rim scrapes because the tire basically came of the rim... I am now more knowledgable and know that this is known as a Tire Burp but yesterday I was pissed because I break it on day 2 Well took the bike back to cycle lab today, and after adding sealant and pumping, they realised that it had a small tear in it... They replaced the tire with a new tubeless ready one and didn't charge me I was pretty impressed by the service because the tire is expensive.
