  1. I wonder if the guys from PE complain as much as the rest of us? The wind was unkind, it stuffed up any goals of a sub 3 so this year I rode to Fish Hoek with the E group, then sat up and enjoyed the ride where I could. A sub 4 compared to 2009 but more importantly, I finished my 30th. I have joined a club and registered with CSA with the idea of starting with the other old farts in VB next year, thats if I can keep up with them. Rememebr, there will always be next year.
  2. I Checked out the carforum site and did anyone else notice that the smashed bakkie is standing near a T Junction sign? He had just passed an intersection. Truck pulls out and driver think F%U and overtakes??? if I lived closer, I would go out and measure the skid marks, to calculate vehicle speed, look for speed signes and check if it was possible that the bakkie was actually overtaking the truck which had pulled out onto the R62. Which could mean he crossed the solid white line. Just my thoughts.
  3. The cyclists had the right of way they were also road users. Some of us pay a licence fee to be registered. Not sure what all that covers, perhaps some issue could be considered for life insurance. I'll mail CSA and ask them to consider this in future. It doesn't bring the cyclists back, but it may help the family to know that the cycling fraternity does care. Of course, if sufficient funds, the mototrist could be legally tackled. The motorist overtook into the path of oncoming traffic, finish & klaar. The excuse of the sun in his eyes, then why was he overtaking, he wouldn't have seen the Scania either then!. I train with Velo in Pretoria and we have vehicles to warn motorists and to prevent motorists from riding onto our back wheels. Believe me, when the van has stopped to assist a puncture, the motorists believe they should be able to squeeze between the broken white line and the cyclists. Even when they can easily use the other lane, they still try to squeeze past us.
  4. yes very sad indeed, black armbands, any particular arm? It happens too easily. last night coming home after filling with fuel, 7-ish, turn the corner and the )(*&^%$ security guard on his bike doing the rounds nearly went over my bonnet. No lights on his bike, no refelctive vest, but boy did I get a fright. he didn't stop at the stop street, if you wondered.
