  1. Thanks Howard. I think the heart says go for the 7000.
  2. Hi gents, A friend of mine is losing sleep on which bike to buy between these 2 2018 Merida's. Are these Merida's any good?Which is best given the R8000 premium on the 7000? The 6000 is going for R42000 on special at Bike Addict. -> https://bike-addict.co.za/collections/clearance/products/merida-ninety-six-9-6000-2018 The 7000 is going for R50000 pretty much everywhere. -> https://bike-addict.co.za/collections/clearance/products/merida-ninety-six-7000-2018 Key differences: The 6000 has Eagle GX 1x12, VS the 7000's 1x11 XT shadow+ and rapid fire shifters. Both have Fox 32 forks, but the 7000 has the step cast version. Lighter. 6000 has aluminium rear triangle and carbon mainframe, while he 7000 is full carbon. SLX brakes on the 6000 Vs XT on the 7000. Are these differences worth the premium on the 7000? Thanks!
  3. Thanks so much, Similar theme coming up regarding awesome service and warranty Giant it is!
  4. Thanks Bro, Which Scott would you recommend?
  5. Great review on the Anthem 2. That Top Fuel 9.8 is a machine. A bit over my budget though. Enjoy! Thanks great tips
  6. Thanks Andrew! Also have the dilemma of a bike shop with awesome service and pedigree (For the Merida) vs one with not so good service, but good deals to be had (for the Giant)
  7. Got it re: head angles. Win for the Giant in this department. Thanks guys.
  8. Hi @madbrad thanks for the info. I am looking for a medium frame. Correct me if I am wrong, the lower the head angle, the less stability and more speed you get right? Hence the Giant would be faster (more efficient), but the Merida more stable when it gets complex? Not sure 1 degree is noticeable though?
  9. I think the Giant has a bigger drool factor! Thanks
  10. Noted, though i think the Merida also has lifetime warranty on the frame
  11. Lol, Prettier for sure. 12 speed is a big plus!
  12. Hi Gents, About to take the plunge and get myself a good Dual-sus XC bike. I cant seem to decide between Giant and Merida's 2018 carbon models. I have narrowed down to the below: Giant Anthem Adv Pro 1 (2018): Got a deal for about R55k, retailing for R61k-R65k Merida 96 9 7000 (2018): there's a special for R49k, and retails for about R60k-R68k. Spec links below: Giant: https://www.giant-bicycles.com/za/anthem-advanced-pro--29er--1-2018 Merida: https://www.merida-bikes.com/en_int/bikes/full-suspension/cross-country-marathon/2018/ninety-six-7000-8895.html Given that the Merida is at least R5000 cheaper at the moment, will this be the better deal? Or would the Giant be that much more worth it? Any other spec differences to consider? Thanks, Simba
