  1. Thanks. So either ant+ or a separate heart rate strap. Appreciate the help. Now to just try getting zwift to see the trainer.
  2. Thanks Leon - does seem like I'll need a separate device/heart rate strap to broadcast to the app.
  3. Hoping that someone has had this issue/combination and knows how to get it working. I've just setup a TacX trainer and the trainerroad app on my android phone. The app picks up the trainer and controls things fine, no problems. However, I don't seem to be able to get the app to see my Garmin 235 watch with heart rate. So while using the app, I can see cadence, power, etc, but the heart rate number is blank. Any ideas on what to try? or am I going about this wrong and I shouldn't be able to use this combination? Thanks.
  4. Yep, which I did. Difficult to buy from a shop if they won't give me a price on a bike though.
  5. Yep, I'm well aware of those issues. Cyclelab is selling down all of their BMCs, but unfortunately nothing in my size. They actually only had one bike in my price range and size available. May still be one or two other BMCs floating around that will be available. I was hoping for that, but whatever is left from last season is quite a bit bigger. I am still looking out for sure though and I'll take another scan through the classifieds.
  6. ChrisF - that was roughly my general experience and thoughts. But thanks all - you've given me a couple of options to think about and some places to check out. The timing between years and the small size required, has made it a bit more difficult to actually try all the bikes I wanted, but it'll eventually get there.
  7. Almost 100% sure, based on the measurements that various bike manufacturers provide for pricing. Thanks - going to hopefully have a look at a roadmachine soon (105, disc). and thanks for the bikemob suggestions, I'll take a look.
  8. I've tried that route and asked what 2017s the stores have in stock. They all keep saying that the size is an issue and 51/52cms don't get large amounts of stock brought in and then get sold quickly. So that has proved to be somewhat of a limitation.
  9. If I could find a store that has a small size in stock for me to go try... Appreciate that advice, thanks. and yes, I'll go for a proper fit after purchase to sort out any of the small setup bits.
  10. If the shop just said to me that they are waiting on the distributor, then I'd have no issues with that as an answer. or even if they were telling me that they only expect 2018s in a few week's time. It is the silence that is the concern.
  11. Agreed on the cheap vs non-cheap. It's been a bit of an eye opener. Sorry, based in Johannesburg. I can understand on the timing being uncertain, but I would have thought most importers/agents would at least have a rough sense of pricing? or am I being too optimistic here? and yes it is probably a BMC roadmachine/Giant Defy/Spec Roubaix/Trek Domaine/ Cannondale Synapse sort of choice. The Cannondale, Giant are proving hard to track down to try, the Specialized doesn't seem to be in stock in my size and I still need to do a bit more work on finding the Trek in a store.
  12. Unlikely any race categories, at least in the near future. Size probably a small/51/52cm. Name brand not particularly important. Budget sub-R35k. Had been looking at a slightly more endurance options, than the more pure race-spec bikes. At the moment, BMC, Trek have seemed like fairly decent price/bike points, primarily because of selling off 2017 stocks.
  13. I'm buying one bike, whichever works out fit and budget wise. Based on the replies in this thread though, I'm obviously a rarity in actually wanting to look at different bikes and make a choice. Most people apparently know exactly which bike they want when buying a new one.
  14. Yep, that is apparent. Having not ridden road bikes much, I have actually been relying on shops for some advice, apart from whatever investigations I'll do online. The timing has been off, with a lot of shops seemingly inbetween their 2017 and 2018 stocks. So the shops haven't always been sure when they are getting their 2018s in, or at what price. Kind of difficult to buy, if the stores can't tell me when or home much the bike is going to be.
  15. I'm not trying to price shop the same brand and asking the guys to beat each other, I'm shopping across brands and finding the bike that fits me best. I'm also not getting the advice from them and then seeing what the cheapest online price is for the same bike. If the shop gives me the service, I'll deal with them on the bike and spend the extra cash on shoes/cleats/peddles/helmets with them.
