So I probably should have mentioned in the original post, but my husband and I are ridiculously tiny humans haha. I'm 1.53m and he's not much taller. We did do the measurements at Cycle Lab and 27.5 is the max we can go, with a small frame. In terms of that Merida TFS 600 xc I posted earlier, we can get that for R3500. Is this a good bike for my husband? If I search the Classifieds for 27.5, in Gauteng, with small frame, I get 2 results. Fuji Addy Bike With Hydraulic Breaks and Merida Juliet 7.300 27.5 Ladies MTB. Are either of these good options for me? Thanks!

Wow, thanks everyone! So in terms of terrain, my husband and I live in Fourways (we're both getting bikes). There are some nice farms around, so we'll do some riding there, as well as on road. There's also a bike park called PwC Cycle Park that my husband is dying to visit. A friend of ours just offered my husband his Merida TFS 600 xc, 26", image attached (still waiting on price, will be less than R4500). How does this compare with the ones I listed above, is it better? But the guy at Cycle Lab said that we should go 27.5" as we'll find 26ers slow. Is this true?

Completely new to cycling, so want to start out with a lower budget bike (don't want to invest too much in case I lose interest). Max budget is R7500. My husband and I are looking to buy some entry level MTBs - max budget probably R7500, but ideally 5/6k. We don't want to invest too much in case we don't take to the sport. We've priced a few options at Cycle Lab and Cajees (all 650b), and are trying to find out if any of these are good options for us, or if we should rather be going to second hand route.
