  1. Hello All,

Plastic bicycles just do not do it for me.

Quality steel framed bicycles do not appear to be available in South Africa any more.

What quality factory made steel frames are readily available in South Africa right now ?.

Are there still any good bicycle frame makers left in South Africa ?, the name of "Gotty" Hansen springs to mind, (but then THAT was a long time ago) B) .

In my view good steel frames are superior to the overpriced aluminium and plastic (sorry, carbon :D ) frames that are available today.

Aluminium frames are a good second choice however.

My choice of frame materials (in order) are:-

    Titanium

    Steel

    Aluminium

Who else feels as I do ?.

    :D :D :D

CIOCC are manufacturing the SAN Cristobal steel frames. One month lead time.

  2. Try and stick to the 50+ HM 1K carbon....in other words the more expensive, stonger carbon. Do stay away from the no name brands that use cheaper carbon. To be honest, stay away from carbon....there is nothing wrong with a high end alluminium frame. In fact, many are actually lighter than the entry level carbon frames.

  3. If you are bringing in just a frame, then ask the sender to post it via Poste Italiane. It costs about 120 Euro and once it enters our borders, UPS takes over. They are very good. You'll pay the VAT and a realease fee of about R100. I have brought in about 10 frames this way. Not sure whether PI can ship a complete bike, as its volumetric weight might exceed the permissable limit.

PM me if you require more details.

  4. Erm - surely you don't want them to last forever and ever? I'd be perfectly happy with replacing them every couple of years or so...

    10 year old bibs? Manky.

You will be supised just how many cyclist use bibs that are long past their "sell by date" <_<

  5. If you want your shorts or bibshorts to last longer, then try and follow the washing instructions which should be attached to the inside of almost all imported garments. Not sure about the locally produced garments as I've never had the pleasure of buying local. Hot water (40+ deg), machine washing. fabric softner and tumble drying will eventually cause the garment to self destruct, so you have been warned. Oh and by the way, bibshorts are like carbon frames or cars, they are not meant to last forever. They do require lots of TLC.

  6.

Make no mistake my friend. This is business. The customer will NEVER benefit.

Two companies do not merge/join forces/do business together for the reason of "lets make people happy and not make money"

    :P ;)

How do you eliminate your competition?....."If you can't beat them.....join them.... ;)

    Just a thought.....

And me thinks that we'll still be discussing this possible merger between CRC and CWC in 6 months time. Personally I do not see it happening....

  7. Guys,I want to order from CRC what will the Tax and extra cost be .I see some of there prices is very good ,I'm just scared of all the SARS costs

Just stay away from shoes, clothing and helmets and you'll be fine.
