    Starting off

Welcome to the dark side Well you can look around at secondhand bikes and equipment which is usually in good condition. To start downhill, the best is to start with a good secondhand frame/bike. Because you dont want to damage your new frame/bike learning more technical riding aspects. There is s big misconception regarding downhill and that is, you must be crazy to do it. Not at all! Like you said, start slow and progress from there. You dont have to do a jump to show off or people gonna laugh at you just because you dont/cant to a big drop. In DH we respect each other and learn from each other! In SA many downhillers rather buy their equipment from CRC, but frames, forks and full bikes buy locally. Support the local industry as much as you can. When riding try to be yourself and DO NOT over think when doing more technical things. And just have fun
  4. Kwaai Cap! C u there mate.Hopefully this time we can do some proper riding...now I am getting all psycho, cant wait for Sunday I will be doing some track maintenance on Saturday in Paarl, just to make things more enjoyable.
  5. Hey guys Are anyone aware of this? "For those who need some practice or just want to ride the new DH course at Contermanskloof, on Sunday 5Dec there is a shuttle day. 10am - 4pm for R80 pp" Saw the post on mtbiker http://www.mtbiker.co.za/forum/welcome/western-cape-summer-dh-series-2011
  6. Hey Just follow the signs to the Taalmonument...Get off the N1 (onto Main Road), then first left (a watermill on your left), left, long straight to a dead end and turn right, then left again and then a final right and you are on your way to the tracks. There is a restaurant at the top of Taalmonument which is very cool. Do the table top, grab some beers and then go back and do more runs. Stefan and I will probably ride as well. Sunday is gonna rain though, then the tracks get even more technical!
  7. Yeah the first round of DH race was awesome and bloody cold! But how many of you guys went off the track?? Was irritating to be going off the track at full speed and then to clear the last doubles in the wind! My brother and Eric took lots of photos of the race and will be uploaded on www.pinkbike.com. Geeez Duane what did you drink to snap your chain right at the start!!! You got elephant legs Like your racing kit. Good news... We got permission to extend the vineyard side track (Late Harvest) all the way to the Taal Monument fence. Building will start in this week. Hope it will be ready for the Shuttle Day. Shuttle Day this Sunday, R80. Some track info: At the moment the track got major changes. A new rock garden to keep you on your toes. A new 8 meter gap, the landing is not tall, but is long. A drifty corner follows after the landing and to a rock drop to a compression to a bermed corner with a jump inside the corner! All the corners have been fixed. A huge hip jump near the bottom of the track, at the big bomb hole. This thing is balls to the wall and BIG!!! The landing is steep and very soft, so please take care NOT to walk on the landing! Future plans: Build the new start area, then connect track to a big, rocky step down, build a new off camber section with tight switchbacks which will take you to the new rock garden. At the bottom near the finish area, we would like to build a big step down, double thing. Hopefully this track will be used as the race track in September. See you all this Sunday! 10. Aaah that sucks man. Hope your fork internals did not got damaged, then all you need is a new or 2nd hand lower. There are plenty fork lowers available. Best bet is to contact Pottie and see what he can do for you. Good luck and hope you will not be tempted to ride on tar/concrete suface again
  11. Some pics of last Sunday's Shuttle Day in Paarl http://saffa.pinkbike.com/album/Shuttle-Day/
  12. Ouch!!! How did you managed that?
  13. Yeah I agree that those short guys with boobars, look really stoopid....look like mini truck drivers. Wonder if they can ride at Mankele without clipping the trees!!!
  14. Hi guys I will be doing some track maintenance on Friday and Saturday so that we can have nice clean tracks on Sunday. Sunday morning another rider broke his ribs and collarbone at the roadgap on the Klipdrift track. The tracks are very slippery of all the pine needles at the moment. And just be careful when riding through Playgrounds while they busy paving the parking areas.

  19. Hi Duane Hope you well, this heatwave is terrible! I know it is a real pitty that I must sell the V10, but I need the money to get my new bike. Glory 2010. Gonna miss her....one of a kind and there are only 4 V10 in South Africa, well thats what I know of. You riding this weekend? I will be riding Playgrounds Sunday morning. Cant ride Saturday, working. See you later
  20. Hi guys. Name is Arno and Im from Paarl. Unfortunately I found this thread a bit too late. Yo Duane, nice to see you on this tread. You still on Pinkbike? Pitty I missed the race at Sir Lowry's. Had to work and did not know about the race before the last Sunday. To everyone who was involved in that race, you did an awesome job. See there will be a shuttle day at Paarl on 14/03. Well just to inform everyone, they started with the paving at Playgrounds and chopping down of trees on the old track. So when you want to cross the road, use the yellow gate. Also recently more quadbikes have been making chaos on the tracks, so please be careful. We are currently looking to place markers and info boards on and around the tracks, but its quite expensive. Anyone want to buy my Santacruz V10...R15000 and its yours. 2007 frame custom sprayed, SRAM X9 components, 2008 RS Boxxer World Cup fork with brand new inners, Fox DHX5 with a 450lb coil, SDG Belair seat + post, 2008 Codes, 2008 Raceface Diabolus Cranks 170mm, E-thirteen Chainguide, Truvativ Husselfelt Directmount stem, Specialized Mag Ti pedals. 18.8kgs at the moment.
