  2. Mine is a 8 years, a GT 29 Zaskar Sport. The group set has upgraded from the FSA 3 speed crank and Shimano M617 to Shimano Deroe M6000, still has the original shock Rockshox XC 32 and the wheel set has been replaced due to cracks on the old ALex rim's. Still going strong and I'm now use for touring, my best tour trip was Mauritius and at the moment bikepacking. Which I custom manufacture bikepacking packs. Each design is tested on my bicycle

  4. Still things are not clear, for instance where one place ads for touring and bikepacking equipment. This is a fast growing entity in cycling and I sent several emails to this effect to bikehub and not one was replayed. I custom make and fit bikepacking equipment, Durban only supplier of cycle touring equipment and I'm unable to find the correct space to advertise my products.
  5. Can you connect me privately,I can give you advice that will help .
  6. https://youtu.be/06oZDHtOi90 The long version Last week I was decided to service my bike, but this time I was going to do the rear bearings because they sounded a bit rough. at this stage this is all that was wrong with the bike. Shimano Ultegra rear wheel https://si.shimano.com/#/en/EV/WH-6700-R Upon having it all apart I saw that the driver side cone was pitted, photo below, No idea where to buy one of those and not having the correct spanner to take off the driver side, I decided maybe this is a job for the pros. Put it all back together new grease ect, took for a ride all good, besides for a rough bearing which I was now hyper aware of. Couple days later I took my bike into the shop, explained the issue show the mechanic the photos, he said it will have to be ordered from Shimano, and booked in for major service, so all bearings get checked. a day later they call, need new bottom bracket and headset bearings, rear wheel is sorted he used a part he had in the shop no charge. now that its back, there is a scary wobble in the rear hub, the shop says hub is damaged, and I wont be able to get those hubs anymore but it wont affect shifting performance and all the bearings have been replaced. After seeing it I took the cassette off, and it looks as if the freewheel body is on the wheel at an angle, or is not in place.. can this be should i take it apart again,, or just leave the wobble.. Any suggestions
  7. I commute to my bike shop every day, bicycle is fitted with rack and panniers which I sell. I'm based in Yellowwood Park and do supply runs, sometimes have to go ti Grey Street or Jacobs to get bearings. Even with this rain this week I been cycling as I designed a poncho that keeps you dry.
  8. They already started to stop cyclists in Durban and issue warnings, it happened to few of my customers. I myself was stopped on Sunday as I turned into Codemore Road. And my front light just af point went off, I received a written warning. Durban cyclists watch out for Metro.
  9. The correct thing to do is a regular toque to be done, say monthly. You can find the correct toque setting on the Sram technical site, pre ride maintenance is important and regular service at service center where the hanger can be aligned, this lessees the pressure on the arm of the derailleur and smooths gear change.
  10. It nothing new, someone introduced a internal gear box a few years ago, the trouble was it was heavy, had to have two gear cables and a twist shifter, the wieght was the gear oil that had to use but it was all most maintenance free , all is needed a oil change. Shimano already has the Nexus system, which is a hub gearbox up to 14 speed , first oil change is done in the second year and in Europe with e bike technology, we in South Africa don't have the Nexus components and Coolheat do not stock, It problem for me as I have problems get the oil when overseas touring bikes and Dutch bike comes into my workshop. As for the internal gearbox I say a got thing for the social ride as they dont clean ther drive chains and prefect for women cycles as it make gear change easy.
  11. Do to technology and customer demands in cycle groupset, manufacturers have redesign to meet make demand. Therefore hoods are part of the changes. Shimano will keep a groupset in production for 5 years and the next first years as spares. Then after ten years production will end for the groupset. What remains is groupset the OME( Bicycle Manufacturer) sort or agents. Why OME will have is, ie they many purchase from Shimano 600 and from Sram 600 to produce 1000 bicycle for a year. What left over is sold to companies like Chain reaction or other sellers. One that all gone , therefore no replacement for groupsets after that. It business.
