Depends on the spider, if you have really old Deore cranks ,you will be able to use the new"compact Road rings 110pcd , however chances are you have 5 arm spider 94 pcd ,therefore the biggest ring available and very rare here in SA is a 46 . if you want to view a web ,look at Specialites TA ,beautiful rings ,you will have to order from someone like Settle cycles in the uk .Alternative sources are Stronglight, Middleburn (Beauties) and Vulta ,the latter pretty crappy(soft and American).. You will spend as much as a complete new crank , If you have a 4 arm spider ,you may be able to get from the above sites but very unlikely .Dont waste your time asking the local dealers ,who will probably stare at you as if you were an alien !!! My advice buy a cheap road crank, with careful setting :you will have to raise the front changer anyway, it will work fine .OR PEDAL FASTER your suposed to be a mountain biker !
