  1. I am glad you all enjoyed the ride, thanks for making it a great success. Go to www.tablemountainbikers.co.za for more photos. The next awareness ride will probably take place sometime in November at Tokai.Check the website closer to the time. Thank you to Red Bull, Caffe Pronto, BOS Ice Tea and Da Vinci's Restaurant for your support.
  2. Yesterday afternoon 2 suspects were arrested on Lions Head by TMNP and SAPS. The 2 , after realising they were being watched, made a run for it and were arrested by SAPS.There will be an ID parade today to establish whether these 2 were responsible for the muggins over the last 5 days. Victims of recent Table Mountain muggings will also be called in to check whether the suspects are involved in those attacks as well. Will keep you posted. Well done to the Authorities on this one! See you all on Sunday.
  3. Red Bull, Bos Ice Tea and Revolution Cycles give-aways. Supercycling will be there to cover the ride. HOT OFF THE PRESS: 2 suspects were caught on Lions Head yesterday. An ID parade today will establish whether they are the ones responsible for the muggings on Lions Head over the last 5 days and victims of Table Mountain muggings will also be called in to check whether these 2 can be linked across to Table Mountain as well. A Big Up to TMNP and SAPS
  4. Got a 3 minute video on my Gopro of the descent into the Grootrivier Valley, as well as the crossing. The crossing over the main river is on my website: www.tablemountainbikers.co.za Got about 20 clips which I posted to Ecobound. Wonder whether they will use some of it.
  5. Great News
  6. There was a mugging on Lions Head on Saturday and I just received another report of an attack about an hour ago, also on Lions Head. Location and further details unknown so far, but the information was passed on from SAN Parks via our Neighbourhood Watch. Although we can't cycle there, you might be wanting to walk around Lions Head. Be careful , especially around the paragliding ramp.
  7. My stomach felt queezy after checkpoint 4 where I had 2 Chip rolls and 2 cups of Milk & Milo. Spent half the night on the loo. Felt better on Sunday night.
  8. Hi I put up a Google map on my website marking general locations where incidents against cyclists have been reported. These are not all exact locations, some markers indicate areas where criminals can hide close to the track. Go to the Chain Suck page on www.tablemountainbikers.co.za and click on the link you see on the right hand side. I will update the map as I receive reports or inputs. If you know of other locations, please let me know.
  9. It's all systems go for the ride on the 28th. There will be marshals at the back of the group to help slower riders and they will carry a spare tube and some tools in case of punctures and other minor defects. There will be no Medic on duty (can't afford it), so please be aware that you are riding at your own risk and that the organiser (me and any affiliate) can't be held liable for any injury during the ride. The terrain is not technical, so I expect everyone to be able to handle it. Please try to be at the car park at the corner of Kloof Nek and Tafelberg Road at 8:30 so we can gather and get going at 9am. There should be plenty of parking available. Red Bull will be doing their sample hand out at the start and not at the Blockhouse, from 8am to 9am. Those of you who have ordered Table Mountain Biker cycling tops will be able to collect them at the start and wear them for the ride. We should get to the Blockhouse by 10am or just after where we will be greeted by some complimentary coffee, courtesy of Bacini's Italian Restaurant. Paddy Gordon of TMNP, Marc Truss of the Table Mountain Forum and a SAPS representative will say a few words at the Blockhouse. After that , you are welcome to stay or make your way back to your car , using any route. If anyone has questions, please contact me at ride@tablemountainbikers.co.za
  10. dv? what is that?
  11. Do the Epic. You get 7 days of entertainment for R 2571/day. You do double the distance, so it's a better deal!
  12. We have reached a total of 94 confirmed riders now, not counting myself, my wife and friends. Thank you to all of you who are spreading the work via other Forums, Facebook, Twitter and word of mouth. There have been some people asking me whether I would consider printing a cycling top with the TMB logo. We sat down and came up with a design. Take a look at it and perhaps you would like one? I will go to print when I have 15 orders. They will cost R480 (excl postage) to cover costs and the R60 extra per shirt will go into a kitty to be used for signage, sponsoring a bike or any other special projects. Even if you live far from Table Mountain, you can show your support by wearing the top.
  13. For those of you still considering whether you should attend the Table Mountain 100 or not, I have attached a press release I was asked to write (with some help from a friend) which gives you a pretty good idea of what I going to happen on the day. Vehicular access to the Blockhouse has been assured by SAN Parks,so there will be some catering available. It looks very much like we will reach the 100 mark with 92 confirmations received and the word still spreading. Press Release.doc
  14. I have 81 confirmed riders now. That excludes myself, my wife and 3 friends who are definites. This leaves 14 bodies required to make 100. Revolution Cycles is printing a limited edition water bottle for the event. You all get one for mahala, so come on. Kulula is offering a plane to bring down some Joburg boys (only joking).
  15. We are up to 65 confirmed riders. I would like to emphasize that this is not a race and is a social ride. Kiddies are more than welcome and the pace will be pedestrian. We are riding to create awareness. We stop for a break at the Blockhouse where I hope to have a coffee machine set up and maybe even a pizza oven. Bring the kids, it will be a nice ride along the trails with an awesome view at the Blockhouse.
  16. Got 39 confirmed now.
  17. Please remember the Group ride on the 28th of August, starting at 9am. I am looking for 100 Mountain Bikers and at last count I have 34 confirmed from the TMB cycling group. 66 more is all I need to make up the 100. Come one, support Mountain Safety. Trying to organise free pizza and coffee at the Blockhouse, another reason to come along. Free TMB water bottles for each rider.
  18. Thanks for the tip. Will investigate that further.
  19. I will be spending the weekend at Brandvlei Dam (near Rawsonville) next week and am looking for some routes in the immediate vicinity. I don't want to drive anywhere. I have heard of a route up to a dam, tucked away in the mountains. Any ideas?
  20. K2C has a nasty bite at the end when you climb from the Pump up to Simola.Forget about the nett Downhill, it won't seem like that when you get into the valley at De Vlugt and climb out the other end. Focus more on the distance training so you don't konk out with 30km to go. Train on all the usual trails and do them twice if you have to.
  21. Go to the Table Mountain Bikers website and send me your details for inclusion on the mailing list. That way you have access to 70 riders who ride on the mountain and you could arrange to meet up with one or more. It's a more direct way of communicating than the Hub.
  22. Hijacking threads seems to be a common occurrence on the Hub, but at least your reply is closely aligned. Go to the website and send me some details. Most of our group are based in town and do a loop before work. But I can certainly consider your commute and include it as another regular ride, as long as it happens every week. Like some of your pics.Would you consider sending me larger versions for the website?
  23. Table Mountain Bikers are starting a weekly morning ride from Tuesday. Meet at 5:30am on the corner of Kloof Nek and Quarry Hill Road for a 2 hour ride to the Blockhouse and back via Signal Hill. Contact us via the website (www.tablemountainbikers.co.za) or Facebook if you need more information.
  24. 32Gi is pretty good. Only problem with all the flavoured drinks is I get sick of the taste. I switched to Enduren, because it tastes faintly like sugar water, that's all. Pepto Pro is also worth considering for marathon distances. Only problem is it tastes like crap on its own and this is where you need the flavoured powder.Great for recovery too. Enduren and Pepto Pro mixed with 32Gi got me through the Epic, no problem.
  25. Forgot to say: I don't own a road bike.
