  1. You guys so make me laugh .... had a friend ride behind her and he decide maybe she was suffering a little chain suck .... well there was .... enough kuk on that chain ... apparently my hubby thought motor cycle spray on chain stuffies would do for her bike ... not ... all sticky !!! So ... yes... I cleaned it all nicely with diesel on the weekend and a bit of good old Q20 ...yes ... well get to the shop for some propper bike lube this week... hopefully. Already she says huge improvement and ... chain hasn't as yet fallen off - but I do think the suggest for an inner chain guard will also help thanks
  2. ok - so a trip to the lbs is going to be necessary - my bad - the plastic thingie broke off the front ?? (crank ??) and yes it almost seems as though the chain bounces when she goes over a bump. thanks,
  3. thanks .... cajees ?? I am in Durbs ? I guess I will have to relent and go to the bike shop...
  4. Hi Guys, My daughter (9yrs) rides a little raleigh (old square frame) with 5 speed grip shift - if we go over bumps (dah mountain bike!) the chain bounces off the front sprocket to the inside ? Mommies getting tired of having to stop and put it back. I got to make this bike last till Father Christmas comes when she can accumulate money to pay for a new bike cos I can't seem to find a inexpensive second hand 24" for her - my XS Giant is too big for her - Wondering if it is going to be an expensive venture to fix ? Another thing - a plastic round guard of some sort snapped off on the inside of the sprocket a while back - hubby said I shouldn't worry - could this be my problem? thanks
  5. This is a thank you to the hubbers who have kindly given advice over the past few weeks... finally I have a bike, properly fitted for me (a shortie!! 4'11) - got me a Giant Boulder XS and I love it already !) now to learn how to do this properly thanks,
  6. Come on guys ... good or bad ??? Entry level bike for small person ? my budget is max R2500 right now - other alternative is an Avelanche ATX 250 ? comments please all you cleaver people thanks,
  7. Correct and ... it doesn't eat while you sleep !
  8. Ha ha ha !!! okay .... thanks for the headsup !! but I am sure NOTHING can be as crappy as the bitching that goes on with the horsewoman!! right little ol dung beetles - the lot of them ! ... and I'v ridden for over 20 years, represented KZN a number of times ... DUNG BEETLES! you know what they are attracted to !
  9. Thank you everyone for your advice - I am still in awe at this website and it's members, so friendly, so HELPFULL!! and no bitter uglyness.... unlike some of the horse sites ! how refreshing
  10. Hi Guys, I am really beginner ... with bugger all budget to spend and just to add more fun - need small frame I visited a lbs shop, looked at an entry level bike to give things a try - Silverback Swift (R2000) SRAM MRX 21 Speed Grip Shift, alternatively the lbs offered me a Silverback Stride (R2500) - 7 speed EZ fire plus. Not having any experience - which would be preferable for me at this stage - one guy told me to avoid the gripshif !! ? others have said go for the gripshift ... who to believe... thanks guys,
  11. Thanks Eugene, You are quite right - my mechanic skills are NIL and it's a bit of a case of me being keen .. not hubby so... go do it on your own ... if I can't afford a horse I have to find another way to be "outriding" ... so the idea of going with the kids new interest in duathlon ... seems a great idea to me
  12. Thanks guys, will measure inseam tonight with assistance ... flip - can't do that on my own and ...well here at work they already think I am a NUT ! will revert in the am
  13. Hi New Bike Girl, I am also new or wanna be new ... just trying to keep up with my kids really but ... I still have to find me a bike - but alas budget means it has to be second hand cheapie at this stage - just battling to even find something that is XS (this I am told is the right size for me ... 1.5m "short") I love the way that people are so friendly and have seen from your thread today that they just encourage new joiners ... how refreshing having in the past been involved on the horse side where things are so snotty !! I am in Durbs - but will see you on the blog. cheers
  14. Hi Guys, Advert for Avelanche Reflex ? I am green novice - can see by reviews that an Avelanche is good make but can anyone offer advice on this model ? thanks
  15. Thanks for that, If can do the X country on horses.... got to give it a bash on my own legs
