  1. I know this thread has been dead for a while, but I had this EXACT issue this last week. Came across this tread, reading all this. I have a BMC Fourstroke that I bought a while ago for a steal, but it had clearly never been maintained. Been slowly rebuilding it and got to the pivot bearings this week. What a total pain. Sat with 2 of these seized pivot bolt/bearing combos. How I got them off eventually with the pivot bolts undamaged (after trying almost everything in this thread) was like this: Use a Dremel and cut the outer race off. The seals and balls come out easily once that's done. Then use the demel cut almost through on 2 opposite sides on the inner race. Once done, clamp the inner race in a bench vice on sides of the race that hasn't been cut, then clamp down hard on the vice and the race snaps and splits in 2 and comes right off. Hope this helps someone somewhere
  2. Don't have one one me now but recall them having the standard 1 1/8th inch dimensions. 42x30x6
  3. Thanks for the suggestion! Will give him a shout thanks
  4. LBS is fine, don't mind supporting them if they stock decent stuff, just seems the local guys here are stocking the cheap stuff which I'm trying to avoid. Will give Westdene a shout thanks for the suggestion
  5. Hi guys. Looking to get some information from the tribal knowledge in this forum. I've been lurking a while but never posted. I recently started pulling my relatively recently acquired BMC Fourstroke 26er apart, and it's becoming apparent the previous owner did not keep up maintenance... The lower headset bearing is completely shot. I removed the seals and repacked it with grease. It runs better but definitely needs to be replaced. Where is a reliable local to SA shop to source good quality headset bearings? The local shops in Cape Town near me I've contacted seems to only stock the cheap Chinese stuff. I can find FSA etc online shipping from EU, but I'm currently waiting week 5 on tyres bought from overseas coming in through DHL due to customs backlog, so would like to avoid that if I can. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
