  1. Thanks for confirming! Yes, the bike is super fun to ride, but I don't see myself standing and pedalling up all the CTCT hills.. I also told my dad that this could've been a TT bike perhaps. Couldn't fathm how hard it was going up a gentle hill even
  2. Ja Bru, mtb KOM's are super hard. I got some road segments on my mtb. Gotta show the roadies how it's done 😜😂
  3. Thanks for confirming Robby! Did a quick 15km cycle this morning, stole soms KOM's from the roadies and called it quits because my calves were on fire! Definitively borrowing my colleagues bike! Still super lekker to ride fast on the flat roads, but grateful to have testes it out in the neighbourhood before tackling the 109kms
  4. please elaborate? I only know 1 rule.. The faster you go, the smoother it gets
  5. So I'm borrowing this road bike from my dad's cousin, training for the CTCT. Obviously it's a Giant OCR 2. But I comefrom a MTB background (+- 10 years in te sport and I consider myself quite a decent, fit rider). So roadbikes are Latin to me.. So I'd like to know, was this a "professional bike" back in the day? Because it is super hard to pedal. I did the lovers lane climb this morning (from Jip de Jager side) and damn.. Compared to a mtb, I had to get out of the saddle and pedal hard. It's impossible to slowly spin up a hill. 42T small chain ring at the front and 21T biggest cassette gear at the back. That's the lowest gear possible and I wish there were more lol. Does modern road bikes have easier/lower gears? Might borrow a colleagues bike who has 3 chain rings and I think will be easier to pedal. I wil be dead by the time I come to chappies and suikerbossie of I ride this bike. Lol. Aiming for sub 3h30mins however. See you guys on the 13th of March!
  6. Spokes are starting to break and the front hub is also slowly deteriorating. I've serviced the hub once, opened it myself and its kinda past the point of repair. Spoke to a few bike shops and wheels are the best upgrade I can do on the bike. It'll also allow me to put on different disk rotors in the future. With the current price of a rear hub vs a new wheel set, I can get so much more value for money by just biting the bullet now and upgrading my wheels
  7. My knowledge is very limited when it comes to the hub. I'm looking to buy this wheelset https://www.takealot.com/stan-s-bicycle-wheelset-mtb-crest-s1-29-110-148/PLID68586356, but I'm not sure if the hub is compatible with my cassette? I'm riding a Scott Scale 940 for some background info. Currently have the stock Shimano FH-MT400-B CL / Boost 12x148mm hub in there. (Link to current bike spec: https://99spokes.com/en/bikes/scott/2020/scale-940)
  8. Thanks Robbie! These look great. I think I will be going for the 30mm ones though, don't ride big stuff and I ride 2.35" tyres. How's the hubs on the wheels like?
  9. Had a look now yes. The 36mm is out of stock anyway and my current rims are 25mm, so 30mm would be perfect then. How long did they last / why did you upgrade?
  10. I actually did, just to meet the father of the owner there who was quite ignorant towards me, explaining to me that once those hubs start to give problems, it's basically irreparable. I wanted to question him why they serviced it, but he was clearly pissed off. Thanks for the info, I'm slowly starting to build up my personal toolset and I love working on my bike. Could you please perhaps give your opinion on the wheelset vs hub though? You sound like someone with experience :)
  11. I found that out the hard way yes.. I don't mind second hand stuff, but when it comes to the mountain biking second hand market, I'm always sceptical. Specially in this scenario where I can't really open up a hub when inspecting it. Those Stans wheels et that I've linked look pretty decent. So R6500 is probably my budget
  12. I'm riding a Scott Scale 940 2020 edition. It has a Shimano FH-M400-B (loose bearings) Rear hub. I've done about 2000km and went to a bike shop. The owner serviced the hub and after 5 rides, I felt that it wasn't smooth anymore.. Went to a different bike shop, the owner there said he would've never even serviced it and rather put on a new hub or perhaps look at a new wheelset as that will work out cheaper in the long run. It makes me a bit angry as the first bike shop serviced it, possibly knowing it wouldn't last very long. Not going back there again. So now I'm here and would like your opinion.. New SEALED BEARING hub & installation is going to cost me minimum 2k according the bike shop.. Or I can get a pair of new wheels, which I kinda like more because now both hubs are sealed bearings and I have more options for disc brake rotors? I'd also like to know if the specific hub on these Stans wheels are compatible with Sram SX cassette? https://bike-addict.co.za/collections/wheels/products/stans-arch-s1-29-110-148-oe-wheelset-1
