  1. I'm keen to join one of these night rides. Next one is Thursday 6th Nov as per the notice board at Bidon. How well are they supported? If there are not a lot of cyclists, implies it will not be safe. Do you ride in an organised group aka peleton, or free ride your own pace?
  2. Thanks everyone. I came right sort of... going to use the supplied Garmin mount on my Giant Revolt Gravel Bike. For the Trek Madone, I have realised that I can tighten the Garmin light to the bikes out front mounting. When I first tightened it, it remained a bit loose and I was scared to tighten it further, scared it might break something. Took a gamble and a bit of extra tightening keeps it firmly in the bracket. It does mean that it cannot be removed without an allen key (not quick release like the rear radar light) but it is a clean looking solution I can live with.
  3. Same... new Garmin Edge 840. Last week my Assioma MX2 pedals dropped out while all other sensors including Varia Radar and HRM stayed online. Not the first time it has happened. Stopped getting cadence and power readings on the unit screen. Went into the Sensors menu and reconnected the sensor and all was well for the rest of the ride. On the next ride the Garmin Radar dropped out for a while but then automatically reconnected. Seems random but it is annoying when these disconnects happen. Running the latest software/firmware. Seems Garmin has a few bugs that need to be squished. They make aviation instruments, so you would think they would be on top of this kind of thing.
  4. Hello, Seems not as straight forward as I thought... I have a Trek Madone 2025 SLR7 Gen 8 with a single integrated aero bar & stem. It came with a factory fitted / integrated Garmin computer mount. I use my Garmin Edge 840 in this. It also has a fitting on the mount underside for installing a light. I bought a Garmin Varia 800 UT front light which comes with some fittings, but they are unusable. Some images included to highlight. If I attach the light directly to the fitting on the bike, it cannot be removed without an allen key for charging etc plus, even when I tighten the screw, it is not tight enough and rocks/swivels on the mount hinge. I don't want to tighten too tightly as I may break the connection on the bike mount. Seems I need an adapter like the one I found on eBay (image included). Seems it is not available locally though. This would allow me to use the included Garmin quick release mount that came with the light as shown in the one drawing attached. I am not going to use the included bolt-on Garmin mount that came with the light as for one, it is ugly as sin on a clean aero handlebar and 2, it won't fit anything but a round handlebar. Seems to me that although Garmin launched this light maybe 10 years back and still sell it today as a best-in-class bike light, they have failed to keep it updated with modern trends in bike design. Anyone know of an option to fit this light to a modern aero bike out front computer mount, or am I sending it back to its maker for a refund, which I don't really want to do?
  5. So I ended up buying a new 840 (was on special at CycleLab). So far very happy. Nice improvement over the 520 which is now on the 'other half's' gravel bike as she does not ride 4 hour+ rides. :-)
  6. Is the Wolwespruit MTB trail near Pretoria good for gravel bikes or would it be a little too extreme? I am referring to the full 23 km trail length. Thanks!
  7. I have a Garmin Edge 520 bike computer. Many years old now and the battery will last around 4 hours from a full charge. Leaves me nervous when I am booked to ride Amashova 132 km race in July. Does anyone know if the battery can be replaced in this unit? I emailed Garmin but a week later, still no response.
