  1. I do have it in writing and until the mess is sorted I suggest all licensed riders tread(pedal) carefully
  2. Almost been scammed a few times on Junkmail. I sometimes buy classic cars for restoration. It seems these guys have extended their operations far and wide. This is how they have tried to scam me. It basically works like this. A car is advertised way below market value. Prospective buyers answer the adSeller sends you a copy of his ID which has been fraudulently obtained (see Paragraph here-under). This the seller says is to show you that he is a genuine seller.Seller requests a deposit to be sent to his cell phone number through ewallet, instant money etc. This the seller says is to secure the car as he has had many interested buyers. The cell phones have in most cases been stolen. When the purchaser requests an address to collect the vehicle the seller says the vehicle is on a farm and he will send a driver to collect you when you arrive at the nearest fraudulent city destination.Obviously the car does not exist and you have now lost your deposit. The seller fraudulently obtains ID documents in this manner. "This the most serious as they use your ID to scam other purchasers of their goods. Never send your ID to anyone". He selects advertisers on Junkmail who are selling goods. He approaches the advertisers(Sellers) and negotiates a buying price. He then says that he will buy and will do an EFT to pay them.He then requests a copy of the sellers ID before doing the bank transfer. The logic is that this is his security that he is paying areal person. The EFT naturally never happens. The fraudulent buyer is now free to use your ID to scam other innocent victims as outlined in the first section of this email.
  3. I have been a licensed rider for many years and am divided on the debacle. Never used it much but renewed every year, as with my PPA membership. I have aspirations to one day get seriously fit, ride some VET events internationally and quite frankly I can do without the bad records created through penalties imposed by the UCI. I see CSA's point and I see the PPA's side of the story. I have had heated dealings with the UCI and CSA on many occassions. The UCI is a stickler and CSA are forced to comply to their international standards. PPA can upstage CSA but not UCI. For the CTCT to grow exponentionally PPA/CTCT need the UCI behind them. CSA is answerable to the UCI. As I see it, CSA is only the messenger. Should the UCI not bend on this ruling and you wish to have an international cycle career after CTCT be wary if they impose penalties as it stays on your record forever. This will affect future sponsorships, team selection etc. Teams and sponsors do not like cyclists with records. As I currently see it PPA/CTCT need to sort this mess out as their supposed victory is turning into a nightmare. A particular saying might suffice. "PPA won the war but lost the battle" PPA are a drop in the bucket when it comes to the might of the UCI. They could find themselves isolated from the international cycling community and that quite frankly benefits nobody. CSA could alternatively sanction only the rider and not the race. Bill each rider R6-00. I would be happy to pay that or even more for peace of mind. Of course the UCI is concerned that PPA's court victory might create a worldwide precedent and that other events might opt for a similar stance, thus depriving UCI and other cycling unions from much needed income. Nevertheless, all i care about is that the First CTCT complies to all international laws governing cycling. We all want it to be success - except PPA and CSA. Whereto from now lies in the powers that be, although at this stage they seem to be a bunch of weaklings. So sad when a bunch of so called educated concerns put their internal politics and aspirations above the greater good for all.
  4. I have had a reply from CSA on this matter. If you are a licensed rider and ride with the seeded groups or if you are a licensed rider and riding as a fun rider you will face sanctioning as per UCI penalties. 1 month ban or a monetary penalty or possibly a combination of both. CSA has informed me that they are currently in negotiations with the UCI around the above. They expect an answer today. I read someones comment earlier that the PPA/CTCT refuse to sanction the event as it would make a mockery of the court ruling. This is ridiculous as we the cyclists are suffering just because these bodies who are empowered through all of our contributions cannot reach compromises to satisfy their paid up members. I feel that all paid up cyclists are in some form or other shareholders of a bigger picture and that we as shareholders are losing huge value. The management of these concerns should take cognizance of this fact. Maybe Helen Zille should get involved as I am sure the debacle is not good for the Cape Town Brand.
  5. Maybe the licensed cyclists who are going to be sanctioned and because of this, choose not to ride, should form group legal action against the CSA, for incurred costs lost for accommodation, flights, inconvenience etc. After all in an earlier statement CSA sanctioned the event and has now had an about turn creating misconception. It could be a sizable combined lawsuit. I am still weighing up the pro's and cons and stand to lose in excess of R20k should i choose not to ride. In my opinion the CSA should resolve with UCI and licensed cyclists should not be the scapegoat for their bumblings. Most inconvenient
  6. I was fortunate enough to have grown up with Alan. I will always remember him for the good times at City Deep. Alan gave me so much, he taught me to love cycling, more importantly he taught me to love life. His legacy will remain in my heart forever. Alan, I thank and salute you. To Vanessa and Wendy, whilst we are worlds apart, my heart and soul is with you at this the most difficult of times. To his children, your dad was the greatest of dads, he had such a positive impact on so many people. The times are sad-The memories of him will last forever. Godspeed to all at this the most difficult of times. Gypsy
  7. These are of course my personal opinions, but i am sure i speak on behalf of many others. Every cyclist would like to win an international medal for his country, this can only be achieved through CSA putting there money where there mouth is. If we create medals at international competitions and build heros , the money will come from all quarters including government. Hence why no one has faith in CSA and the good SA Cyclists end up racing for a sponsor internationally because CSA has the proverbial cap in hand, always waiting for someone else to do something before they get involved. CSA of course has no clue on how to coach or to look after an Elite team. The sums and effort required are enormous and CSA are not prepared to invest in this nor do they have the people with the necessary qualifications. CSA management is weak and undecisive hence the mess. CSA is presently run as a club for selected members, when it should be managed as a business by very strong business people who are able to drive change by getting rid of the dead wood and replacing them with people who can move mountains in order to make change. Unfortunately CSA has my vote of no confidence.
  8. CSA have medal potential right here and now who are elite cyclists and are selected for the National Teams. They are expected to produce results at World Cups, Commonwealth games, Olympics etc with very little financial or any other input from CSA. In order to win a medal an elite cyclist needs to be fully employed by CSA in order to achieve that goal. Presently CSA has no structure to facilitate this due to the enormous cost involved in creating a medal hope. The cost to maintain an elite cyclist is far different to that of a junior. CSA only condones international competition by a cyclist if they fund the trips themselves.
  9. Fellow Hubbers If you were selected by Cycling South Africa to be part of the South African Team-What do you think CSA should provide for the selected cyclist? Eg; Salary, equipment, coaching etc. (Give figures.) What rewards should be provided to the cyclist that achieves results at these international events? The reason I put this to Hubbers is that we seem to fall far short of what other federations are doing for their National Teams. CSA somehow expects cyclists to achieve medals and results at international level with no support from themselves. CSA always seems to have no funds available. Your comments might give them a wakeup call.
  10. Willie has always been a gentleman and has over many years proved to be a valuable asset to cycling. It was Willie who got me back on my bike many years ago, it was Willie who helped sponsor some of the best known cyclists today. It was Willie who personally financed bicycles for a number of cyclists who could not pay cash. I feel some have short memories and now critisize the man who made many of us what we are today. The old saying seems to repeat itself over and over "When days are dark, Friends are few" I am sure Willie has many many friends out there. Willie is my friend and I stand by him through thick and thin. Gypsy
  11. I FEEL IT IS NECESSARY TO POST MY APOLOGY ONLINE. Well over a year ago I used this forum and made some uncalled for comments about Michelle Corbett. in the last few weeks I have for the first time seen and watched Michelle's cycling abilities and performances at Gauteng Track Champs and South African Track Champs. She is, as some of you said, an exceptional cyclist. I now agree that she is multi talented and an asset to the sport of cycling. I make no excuse for my actions, they were wrong and therefore wish to apologize online for any and all of the comments I made about her performance at the junior tour in 2008. It certainly was a pleasure to watch her at the various track championships and wish her only the best for the future. I have also personally congratulated her on all her performances at these championships. Sorry Michelle!!!!!!!!!!!!!---I was wrong. GYPSY
  12. Gypsy has returned from a business trip and I have perused the many comments made by hubbers. It would seem that a number of you support underhanded tactics in cycling. My interest in this saga is that my company is looking to sponsor a junior ladies team. When we started asking questions about talented individuals we were informed about a number of irregularities that occurred at the Junior Tour. One of these was the Michelle saga. There were other issues brought to our attention as well and we are dealing with them. We will only get involved once there is a level playing field and we will go out of our way to make sure all comply. And for those of you who dont like me you will need to join the back of the queue as there are a lot of people in front of you. Michelle i have also noted your comments and all you need to do is win races on your own steam and i will be the first one to congratulate you in person. And for those talented junior ladies that we have identified we will be in contact as soon as the air is cleared. I am also signing out as i am tired of this subject.
