  1. Thanks for the responses guys, much appreciated..checking out irideafrica now.
  2. Hi guys, I've been riding for about 7months now, and would like my brother to join but he doesn't have a bike and not sure if he's gonna like it etc etc. Therefore we are looking at renting him a bike for the day and head out to Tokai. Preferrably i would like him to get him a dual suspension. You guys know of any places in the Cape Town area to rent a bike? I've came across 2 places so far by googling: www.capetowncyclehire.co.za www.cycleteknix.co.za/

  4. haha, cool i'll take some pics..planning on doing Tokai forest on Sunday morning.cant wait.
  5. Thanks for all your help guys, i picked up my Giant Trance X4, Medium yesterday..super happy with it and cant wait to hit the tracks.cheers
  6. Yeah,i reckon you'll def need to updgrade when getting the Trance X4..just the fork and rear shock at least.and that is prob the most costly components on the bike.Im going that route because i do not have R20k in hand to spend on a bike and i can save up for it in the next 4-6months - but that means Im at home missing out on all the sessions my friends are having meanwhile. So eventually i'll end up with a R20k bike after upgrades. In your case if you do have the +- R20k, i'll say go with the Trance X2. I also thought perhaps i should go for the Trance X3, but the X3 and X2 are so close price wise that its a no brainer to go straight for the X2. If you shop around a bit you can find the X2 for +- R19000 i'll say. Most shops give you around 5% discount. What is the price on the Scott? Also seems like a pretty good bike.
  7. I'll also go with the Anthem X2. I had the chance to do a quick round the block on an Trance X2 (5inch travel) and the suspension feels amazing. Not much riding on it to really comment I know, but just giving my 2c. I'm getting my Trance X4 soon after quite a lot of research, reading forums, asking questions, visiting bike shops etc..and that Maestro suspension (well the X2's) def stuck on me. Will be upgrading my fork and rear can over time to bring it up on par with the X2. Def go visit some bike shops and get on these bikes.
  8. Then im losing out on riding fun..lol..all my mates are already riding weekend after weekend and i've been without a bike for about a month now. So im getting the X4 for pretty cheap and its all that i can afford right now.then im going to build up the bike month to month starting with the fork and shock....and i like the white:)
  9. yep, its the white one..def going to start by changing the fork and rear shock in the next couple of months.
  10. That would have worked hey..im def getting the trance x4..deposit already paid..just need to decide size.
  11. I am probably a large yes..the sizing examination i did today also recommends a large..it just feels ill be able to ride more aggresivley on the medium.ill also be doing small jumps during my rides and then progressivly bigger ones..wont the bigger bike be more difficult to pull these off?
  12. Went back to my LBS today, and did the whole bike fitment/sizing thing. ended up with a effective top tube length of 59.5. So the guy said that sits me on a Large. I tried out the Medium (did not have Large in stock) and it actually felt very nimble and throwable underneath me.only thing that felt a bit weird is the handle bars felt a bit too close to me and maybe a tad to low. I'll mainly be doing trail riding and im looking for a bike i can really push and go crazy on. The large did feel a bit more "right size" can i say but porb not as throwable. There was about 25mm left till maximum extension on the saddle..will this make my climbing more difficult or uncomfortable?
  13. 19" would have been the sweet spot for me:( Thanks for the steap descent comments, and the pic..makes it pretty clear. Anyway, i was on a trainer on the Large Trance. tried going behind the saddle, but can see i'll need to drop it right to the bottom against the frame in order to do this and naturally the reach felt a bit far when attempting this. so if going for the large ill need a shorter stem i reckon.
  14. Thanks for the advice, i will keep this in mind. My inseam is +-81cm i think. I just dont want to end up buying a medium and then complain about how small it is when climbing, and then buy a large and complain that it is not small enough to really throw it around.
  15. I'll prob not be able to take it offroad..but im def going back to sit on the medium. The thing is I want to start riding more and more agressivly and therefore some people recommend the smaller bike. When i stand over the medium the handlebars feels so far down and when im standing over the large there's about 4cm clearence. I feel comfortable on both, the medium feeling a bit weirder but i think thats because im coming from a large and not used to a smaller bike, but at the end of the day if its going to be more beneficial in the long run for me to get the medium because im going to be able to throw it around better then ill take it.otherwise i feel pretty comfortable on the large although i can def feel its a bigger bike. Quick question on steep descents - ive done a couple of these and shift my weight back a bit.my question is do you want to be able to shift your body as far back as "behind" the saddle or won't you go that far?
  16. Now im confused again regarding the best size for me..i read some other forums, watched some youtube videos etc and everyone seems to sit my height on a medium frame?? ill have to go in again to sit on the medium..this is becoming a difficult choice because of me being borderline between the 2 sizes..i can pull off the medium as well..further advice anyone?
  17. Thanks guys, i've re-measured myself at home and i'm exactly 1.82m. I've also went back to the shop and hopped onto a Trance X2 Large..fits me better i think. on the medium the handle bars felt so far down and i can imagine doing a lot of hunchback riding..not good for the back.so i reckon im going for the large then.super excited to start riding.
  18. Thanks for the advice regarding size. When I was at the bike shop i was on a Med Trance X4 and felt a bit smallish and the guy advised me to get a Large. I'm exactly 1.8m and weight +- 75kg. I think it felt small because I came from a Large hardtail, but i know ill be able to pull off the Medium.
  19. What size do you guys think i should get? I'm 1.8 (5ft 11"). My previous bike was a Giant L (hardtail). Should I get Large or Medium for the dual suspension? Thanks
  20. Hi Knersis, ill def contact you once i have the bike. From the looks of it i might get it middle or end of next week.
  21. Thanks for the offer knersis, i will keep it in mind. First want to get the bike and see if im happy with the standard shock. from what i've heard, i won't be.hehe.but for R10.5k brand new dual suspension, i think it is a pretty good deal.i'm willing to upgrade the fork and shocks as i go along. Are you currently advertising the shock anywhere? want to know how much time i have as i will only order the bike this week and not sure how long it will take before they get stock?
  22. Just been to my LBS and can get the Trance X4 for R10500. However I was advised to swop out the front and rear shock for an air shock to enhance my ride seeing that this is a dual suspension and you want air on it. That being said here is my options. 1.) Buy the Trance X4 for R10500. Swop out the front and rear shock when i have the money. Might be in a year or so. Or can do it one at a time and in the meanwhile ride and build skills on a dual suspension. 2.) Buy a Merida TFS 800 or Merida Race Lite 1000D for R8000-R10000 with air forks and all the SLX/XT components. Ride this for 1-2 years. Sell it and get a Trance X2. What do you guys think?
  23. Yes i know the Trance is a trial bike, but I was under the impression the Merida One Twenty is also a trial bike?? 90% of my riding will be single track. This was exactly my thinking. Because i wont be able to get a R15k+ DS bike now, so then i must buy a hardtail again, ride it for a year and then have to sell again to get a Trance X2 or something similar.
  24. I saw the that Trance X2 at Kayalami, but unfortunately Im in Western Cape. I'm size Large, (+- 1.8m). I sat on a Med Trance and it felt a touch to small.
