  1. The wind can be a bugger on those long southern straight stretches apparently. I feel fortunate that we got to do it the other way, before Uitkyk Pass and Pakhuis Pass were tarred. Algeria - Sandrift - Eselbank - Wuppertal - Heuningvlei - Pakhuis Pass - Clanwilliam and along the back road to Algeria. More interesting, I think. We had a back-up vehicle but the local community in Wuppertal or Eselbank had some accommodation options back then.
  2. But that second lady was on an e-bike. Perhaps she had it on full throttle the whole way. So yes, one hopes they have categories that acknowledge that too!!!
  3. The 'trail' is just a fairly rocky disused gravel road / jeep track that cuts straight across from one tar road to the next, bisecting the circular tar road. It does allow you to get close to the fynbos, but very straight and flat. Otherwise it's riding on tar, along the main spine road out to the Point, and the various offshoots down to the coast on each side. Mostly out and back and some are quite a steep climb back up to the spine road. It's nice to do sometime when the wind isn't blowing, so this is a good time of year, but I think holiday traffic this long weekend would make it unpleasant. The main tar road out to the point is narrow, so if there are cars going both ways, it can get a bit hairy. No shoulder really.
