  1. Big +1 for this. Meurant is a superstar. The trails are in great shape and Never say neverending story again is a spectacular section. I understand why it is on the Epic route for this year. Just be aware that Trailforks has not been updated to show the new fenced off section - I spent a while trying to work out where to go (because I trusted Trailforks over the signs on the actual trail).
  2. I last rode from Stellenbosch over Botmaskop to Banhoek in April and found the link between Luiperd se Fijndraai and the beginning of Bartinney Skyfall freshly plowed over. Not sure what the situation is now.
  3. Scary stuff. Hope the foot is healing. For me, I don't really see any advantage to being clipped in on trails, only the downside as you suggest may have happened. So my vote would be to stay flat on the trails.
  4. I have found Ride Concepts to be fantastic shoes and excellent value. Mine are nearly 2 years old now and very little sign of wear. I have the Livewire. Cycling Shoes| Scott, Shimano & Leatt Shoes| Bike Addict
  5. A big thank you to the trail builders, unsung heroes of the MTB scene.
  6. Two good options right here on Bike Hub... Trek Top Fuel 9.8 (small) | Dual Suspension Mountain Bikes | Bike Hub TREK SUPERCALIBER 9.8 (S) *Carbon+Wheels-SiD-XO1* | Dual Suspension Mountain Bikes | Bike Hub
  7. Anybody in the Western Cape had a Brink towbar fitted locally? Web search only comes up with authorised fitment centres up country. I have emailed Brink for a list of WC fitment centres but no response yet. Also, anybody using a detachable towbar? What is it like to use?
  8. Rode from Stellenbosch over Botmaskop to Banhoek yesterday and found the link between Luiperd se Fijndraai and the beginning of Bartinney Skyfall freshly plowed over. You have to climb a bit and come down on the edge of the plowed field to get to it. Put a report on Trailforks but just wanted to share in case someone was hoping for a quick time on this route. Riding down a plowed field takes a while...
  9. Thanks Steady. You’re right, SRAM have confirmed that it is a fault, taking it in tomorrow.
  10. Just took delivery of a Trek Fuel EX 7 Gen 6. It has the Rockshox 35 Gold RL 150mm travel fork. One thing that is confusing me is that twist knob at the bottom of the fork used to set rebound is not "clicking". It just turns either clock or anti-clockwise for a few full turns. Is that right and am I being the knob or does it indicate an issue with the fork?
  11. So Riders at Work are doing a great job at helping me to use the claim payout to upgrade. As @Stoffel76 said, the dealers are quite happy to take in a bit more money.
  12. I really appreciate the thorough advice, thanks @Stoffel76. I was out of cell reach all day today and got home to an email saying Discovery tried to get hold of me. So I guess I will be able to ask the questions first thing tomorrow.
  13. Thanks @Riccardo. Any advice or insight into the option of asking for cash vs having to take the replacement item?
  14. Not cool. The whole point of insurance is to cover the big losses. How much would it cost to upgrade your policy?
  15. Riders at Work mailed to say they have finished their assessment and Discovery will be in touch directly. So we wait and see...
  16. Thanks @Dappere
  17. I have Discovery Insure and Riders at Work processing this claim: Stolen: Trek Top Fuel 5 Large 2022 | Bike Hub I am hopeful that I will be on a bike soon again, but have a couple of question for those of you with experience in these matters (sorry for your loss). Firstly, I had upgraded the pedals from the plastic OEMs to e*thirteen Basics, and the rear derailleur from Deore M6100 to XT M8100. Should I expect to be compensated for these upgrades (I did not amend the policy when adding them to the bike.) Secondly, the new Trek Fuel EX 7 is on special right now... What are the chances of them paying me the cash and me adding the difference to get the Fuel EX?
  18. Stolen: Trek Top Fuel 5 Large 2022 When: 30/08/2023Where: Roundhay, Cape Town, Western CapeStandard components except for e*thirteen pedals, Shimano XT rear derailleur.Get further details about the incident in the Stolen Bikes section.
  19. Ended up getting Titan Racing Clutch gloves, mainly because I really wanted to go and ride and this was the only option available immediately. One ride in, pretty impressed for R350. Great fit with no uncomfortable seams and I like the placement and feel of the padding. Time will tell.
  20. Good morning. During a short session practicing hops in the street in front of my house I inadvertently performed a trick which involved skidding along the tar on my palms. As a recent convert to MTB from trail running, I was fortunately wearing a pair of running gloves which now have extra ventilation in the palms, but did prevent more of my skin becoming part of the road surface. So now I want to do the right thing and get a proper pair of gloves. I plan to ride a lot at Helderberg Farm, Jonkers, Grabouw, and my priorities are protection, comfort, warmth, in that order. Thanks in advance for your advice!
  21. And just took delivery! Very impressed, thank you @MarcHD! Exceptional service.
  22. Just bought a couple of items off https://getstokedonline.co.za/ and happy with the payment and order tracking steps. Especially in comparison to another site that works on a quote system.
  23. Thanks @openmind, will check those out.
  24. I'm new to the MTB scene, being a trail runner needing an outlet while I decide what to do about a torn meniscus that has stopped me running. My favourite trail runs were in the rain, so I am keen to replicate that on my bike. I don't want to damage trails by riding them in the wet though. Are there any trails or a paved / hard enough pump track that can be ridden in the wet? Preferably single track or something that I can continue practicing my woeful jumping skills on. I live in Somerset West but will travel. Thanks in advance!
