Anyone have any thoughts on areas to avoid cycling through in or around Capetown, any areas or roads that are particularly good (chapmans peak for eg). Also ok to cycle solo? Any thoughts ? Many thanks

SRAM 2:1 RD's shift the same amount, the difference is at the shifter end, if the rd shifted twice as much as a shimano rd you would have a v strange looking cassette (ie it would have v large gaps).

The hub width is standard, as is the overall width of the cassette, what differs is the spacing between the cogs, ie it is narrower with 9 and 10 speed than with 8 speed (which is why you need a narrower chain). If your shifters are 9 speed or above they probably wont shift very well on an 8 speed cassette as they are designed to move the chain over a slightly shorter distance between each gear. Also campag/shimano cassettes and shifters are not compatible (although shimano and SRAM are) Hope this helps

Hi guys We will be vistiting SA for just over 2 weeks from 8th Feb and would like to get some riding in. I will prob bring over an old steel 531 framed bike that I use as a winter training bike here in the UK. We will be in Lagenbaan for the first week (as I am also a keen kitesurfer) and then in the capetown region for about a week and a half. I was hoping for some advice on road cycling in or around capetown (or lagenbaan for that matter) for eg are there any obvious do'd and dont's (I was hoping to get some road miles in early morning before the wind kicks in) Any suggestions for routes, group rides, club rides maybe? Appreciate that this is a bit vague but any suggestions very welcome (Happy to recipricate btw if any roadies visiting Brighton!) Many thanks
