Morning guys, I got my new bike from Robert (thanks again Robert) a new helmet, gloves and just bought the discounted south winelands permit. I just need to get myself some cycling shorts and then I am ready to go. Is buying one of these cycling bibs a huge advantage towards getting one of the cheaper shorts? The weather forecast looks great this coming weekend, so I'm really looking forward to try out the new bike :).

Thanks, yes I saw that it's something like 1800R a year, but if I remember correctly I can get it for 1000ish R if I only get it by August (or so I hope). I need to double check on that. Anyways, I decided to get the bike from Robert. I'm pretty excited about that. I used to cycle a lot about a decade ago and look forward to get back into it.

I knew it was a good idea to open this thread! When I see saw all these bikes 15K and more, I had a hunch it might be an expensive hobby. But I'll keep looking and post here if I think I found something decent for little money. Thanks again for the input guys.

Hi, I am thinking about getting a mountain bike to explore the Helderberg region. I am completely new to this. My budget seems to be a bit tight though, about 8K max, so I am not sure if it's worth it to actually continue dreaming about this or if I should rather stick to my hiking boots... I have been browsing the second hand market, but I'm not too sure what to look out for, so I decided to ask for help and guidance on here. What should I look out for? Is there something decent out there considering my budget?
