  1. Agree 100%. I'm also 16, and the way I see it, e-bikes are only for really old people or those with injuries. If you're young, do real cycling and experience all that pain and glory and get fit.
  2. Yes it does start and finish there but the description says it to be a little more challenging than gravel roads
  3. Does anyone know what the Attakwas Half is like? I know its also probably pretty brutal but how technical is the route?
  4. Yeah that's important. Doesn't help that my afrikaans isn't so good😂
  5. Yesth Yes, I was planning on working it like that. I was going to get permission from all the landowners and just hope no one says no😅
  6. Thanks that would be nice! Do you know the route quite well? I only know the route thats around Ladismith but as far as I know, although much of the route is damaged and unrideable, there are some sections which are still good. The idea would be to ride the route when possible and ride the roads when not. Seeing as there's no good road between Tous Rivier and Ladismith the idea would be to start and finish in Ladismith in the beggining, and then later maybe from Touws Rivier to Ladismith.
  7. I didn't actually know about her. I'd heard of Makadas Adventures but didn't know who or what it was. I did hear somebody else tried it a few years back though, but it didn't get off the ground. Thanks for the tip!
  8. It would be a mix of gravel and singletrack, mostly singletrack probably. My hopes are that it would get quite big someday and become a well known race. I think seeing as the route would have a lot of history it would be quite popular.
  9. But as regards expenses, would your sponsors cover everything? And how would you get an event organizer like dryland or something on board? Also, would having an organizer on board make the legal clearances easier?
  10. I've never ridden it. I've ridden the roads alongside and small sections, but parts are overgrown and there are washaways too. The route would need some repairs first and I was planning to take it on the roads at bad areas. And the land is no longer owned by Transnet. It's been decommissioned and is owned by whoever owns the farm it crosses. I heard somebody else tried to do the same thing once but there were unwilling landowners. I thought I could try again and also bypass farms using the roads.
  11. The idea i have is to make a race along the old makadas railway line between Laingsburg and ladismith in th Klein Karoo. If you did the whole line it would have to be a 2 day stage race but i was thinking to start a 1 day would be best.
  12. So I've been thinking of starting an event in my area for a while and I'm just curious as to how it would get started. Would I first have to plan everything then ask an event organizer to organize it, or do I ask them first? How would they make their money? How would you get sponsors involved? If anyone has any feedback I'd really appreciate it.
  13. I'd say get a good second hand bike. Save yourself the headache of a cheap bike and parts replacement and just get a good one. You'll enjoy your ride more too.
  14. Rather go with the signal. It's got the best specs but if its too pricey then take the Momsen over the titan. And yes, air forks are 100% worth it!
  15. Just get a small or meduim frame 29". At your height, you can ride a small 29". The bigger wheel has better rolling and you go farther for every crank revolution. 26" is a more of a kids bike. 27.5 is also good, but the bigger wheel is better.
  16. With some brands like specialized you pay for name so yes, you are paying mor because its a specialized. But like the others said, second hand is better value. With 10k you'll get a good second hand bike but buy new as possible even if its not as high a level model.
  17. Funny that because my LBS also said that they don't stock Momsen anymore. I thought it was just here though. But I'd still say if you find a good Momsen, buy it. I've had 2 Momsens in a row and have never had to replace any components on the bike. They're extremely reliable.
  18. I wouldn't take the sd hand silverback because its 8 years old and a 3x drivetrain. The rogue peak is the better of the other 2 but I would recommend looking around on bike hub a bit more. you get some good deals. Look to get as new a bike as possible with at least a 2x drivetrain. Also be careful with the cheaper brands and rather go for something like giant or Scott. you should get a pretty decent bike for about 8-9k if you look around. I can also recommend a Momsen. they make brilliant entry level hardtails that are affordable too. You,d have a hard time doing better
  19. If you just wanna do some weekend riding or commuting you could get away with the hd. But for the long run if you wanna step up your game a bit, the package on the deluxe is better, eg. air fork, 1x drivetrain, and shimano brakes
  20. Thanks I did everything and it helped a lot my brakes are working fine now😊
  21. So my front disc brakes were squealing a bit, so I got some isopropyl and cleaned the rotor and pads. When I put the wheel back on, the squealing had stopped but the brake is not working properly. Even if I clamp the brakes really hard the wheel still moves if you push it. Has anyone got any solutions?
  22. I'm a relatively new member but bike hub helped get me started on cycling. I bought my first proper bike with them. Its a really awesome website!
