  1. Posted 03 October 2010 - 09:12 AM Hi, my name is Shelldon & I'm a Durban boy (Hillcrest now). For some time now I been seriously considering converting to a singlespeed. Naturally everyone's first question is why? I have a number of reasons, firstly, I am so sick and tired of the back and forth trips to the lbs for repairs and services. I ride as much as I can, I commute by bike 3 times a week as well so it's a lot of mileage adding up and naturally with mileage comes wear and tear. I sat down one afternoon and worked it out (I keep my receipts and stuff from the bike shop for some inane reason) and honestly my drive chain was hurting me big time! This is not even including the races I haven't finished thanks to bent/broken/twisted dérailleurs. The next reason is simpler, I rode a borrowed singlespeed for two days while commuting and the bug bit deep and hard! It changes the way your ride, you start anticipating more, planning ahead more (well I did anyway) and I honestly seemed to enjoy my ride more! Now make no mistake, I am about 30kg's and at least 10 years off of being any sort of racing snake, so this is certainly not about training or anything like that, it's purely just about riding a bike for fun. So today is the day I kick into action with my own conversion. I've done loads of reading and research and I'm pretty confident I can pull this off. I plan to take a few pictures as I go about things and post them here (on a separate thread though). On this thread, I thought it would be cool if other ss'ers posted a little something about themselves and their rides and where they're from, perhaps we can get a cool 'ss' club going, perhaps even the odd ride together (ala' critical mass style). Hoep to hear from you all!
  2. Dear Silverback Team I would just like to say well done on the development of the Mecury 2. As an engineer I pride myself on researching all the aspects of a product before I buy it. I read as many forums as possible and try to get peoples firsthand experience with the product. One thing most people agreed on was that you would get value for your money when buying a Silverback. Now that I have had my Mercury 2 for a couple of months now I can tell you, “what an awesome bike”. No matter how hard the terrain or how much I push the limits (the bikes and mine) my Mecury 2 never complains. During the Knysna 85Km mountain bike race on Saturday other bikes were squealing, clanking and giving trouble while I rode through without any problems. Although reliability is important there are other factors that I am also very happy with. Whether I am climbing, pushing the speed on the flatter sections or making my way down a technical decent I always feel comfortable and assured which gives me confidence to push my limits. In short thanks for a great product that allows me to enjoy mountain biking that little bit more. Best Regards Sean Parker Director
