  1. Thank you so much, @DieselnDust. That's so kind of you! I really appreciate this.
  2. @DieselnDust Please let me know about the Shimano SPD pedals, if you’re still keen to donate them to me down the line. 😁
  3. Hey guys. First of all - thank you so much to everyone for the replies and all the assistance. I appreciate you all taking time out of your busy schedule to help a stranger on the internet, that’s really kind of you all. So I’ve come to a decision - I’m going to have @RobertWhitehead build me the bike that he mentioned earlier on. I really appreciate all the links and suggestions that everyone else sent me, and while they are all great, I believe I’m getting a great deal and fantastic quality from Robert who is clearly respected in the sport. Once again thank you all so much! I will update how it goes with my cycling journey once I get the bike. I’m super excited to get started! Have an awesome weekend everyone!
  4. Lovely, thanks so much. I really appreciate the link. I’ve saved it for now to purchase later on.
  5. Wow @DieselnDust! That's so kind of you! Thank you so much! I'd absolutely love them if you're sure you won't be using/needing them in future. I'd be more than happy to pay for postage.
  6. Awesome @Alouette3, thank you so much for the advice. Glad you found something awesome for your wife!
  7. @RobertWhitehead How does this compare with the one you'd like to build for me? Apologies if it's a stupid question, I'm just totally ignorant about bike parts and which are better/not so great. 🙏
  8. Awesome, thanks so much @Jensiefor sending me the link, I'm definitely going to consider it.
  9. Wow! That's mighty kind of you @RobertWhitehead! This is so awesome! I don't know much about bikes as we've established, but this sounds like a pretty sweet deal. Are 26" tires better than 27,5" for a small frame? Is tubeless a big deal? How much extra would they cost? Fair enough, that shows you're quite confident in this build. I really appreciate it.
  10. Thanks so much @Alouette3, I really appreciate the advice. Especially about the 29" wheels on a small frame, I would never have known that. Thanks for the bonus tips, super grateful. Yes, I'd say I like the Giant the most as I have been put off a little bit from 29" wheels on a small frame based on your wife's experience.
  11. Thank you so much for the suggestions @MORNE , based on what @Alouette3 said about the wheel sizes, I'd say I like the Giant the most.
  12. Thank you @Spinnekop. I will definitely get a helmet for my own safety. As to whether it will become my passion- my passion is actually weightlifting, but really I do enjoy riding with my BF and it's important to him, so I'll definitely be doing it long term. You are right though, I'd just love to have my own bike and get started with building up my cycle fitness.
  13. Ahh, okay, @Breezy92. Thanks so much anyways, I'll take a look. I'm probably going to ride quite a bit on sand/dirt roads in the Fynbos near me here, and my boyfriend loves to ride from Jan Smuts to Delta Park riding thought the park and back, and I would eventually like to build up my strength and stamina enough so that I can join him.
  14. Goodness me! That's awful @ChrisF, I'm so sorry. Unfortunately not everyone has moral values or perhaps he/she was just purely ignorant. Okay, lovely, thank you. Yeah, Potchefstroom is quite a far drive from me unfortunately. Oh wow! That's really so awesome of him! A true lover of the sport no doubt.
  15. Hey @Breezy92. Thanks so much for the suggestion. Is it possible for you to send me the link please? For the life of me I can't find it on bikehub. 🫣
  16. Hi @ChrisF, Thanks so much for all the valuable information. Much appreciated. Ahh, I see. I've done a bit of googling, and based on the one website it seems that according to my height and inseam height, a size small and 27,5" wheels will probably be the best fit for me. If you say an experienced person - are you referring to someone in say a bike shop? Am I correct in assuming bike shops only sell new? If that is the case would they be willing to assist me with a proper fit if I'm not going to buy from them? Lovely, thanks so much. I'm going to make notes on all these points and reference them when buying a bike. Awesome, thanks you - Cape Town is pretty awesome I believe. Is @RobertWhitehead a seller of bikes?
  17. Thanks so much @RobertWhitehead. That sounds like a nightmare - I wasn't aware that cyclists could have all these issues. I'll do my best to get the best bike for my height, size, etc.
  18. Hi @DieselnDust. Thanks so much. Haha. Noted, thank you. Great, thank you. @RobertWhitehead also recommended something similar, much appreciated. Oh, really? I had the opposite take but will get shoes to clip in soon then as I didn't think about that. Okay, awesome. I'll keep that in mind once I have a bike as I didn't even think of that. Thanks so much for your valuable input, really appreciate it!
  19. Thank you @Spinnekop! Lol, so I've been made aware! 😂 Awesome, thanks so much for the suggestions. Okay cool, will do. Yeah, haha, I borrowed my BF's Stepmom's bike and the first two cycles sitting was quite painful. Perfect, I'll do that, thank you. Thanks so much for your input, I really appreciate it. I'm sure I will, thanks so much!
  20. Good one @Bike Dewing - I feel your pain! 😂
  21. Thanks so much for the response @RobertWhitehead, much appreciated. Thank you for your input. If you say 29er and 26er, is that a reference to the wheel size or something else? Lol, so I believe. I probably won't worry too much about the kit for now besides the pump and helmet as I'll only be riding for about and hour or two on the weekend. Maybe a bit more in the beginning to build my confidence and skills a bit.
  22. Hey there @mrcg. Oh my, I'll keep that in mind, thank you. Good grief, I hadn't even considered all the gear - total newb. 😂 Awesome, I'll consider the renting route, but I would probably prefer buying from the beginning as I'd rather not mess ups someone's bike, haha. I'm in Noordheuwel, near the Cradle of Humankind and we've got some beautiful Fynbos near me that I'm dying to go riding in!
  23. @gerriemtb Thank you so much! Great, thank you. Will do. I hope so too!
