  1. Hi all, This is my first time taking on 360one. Any tips that you would suggest, especially things to include/not include in the boxes and what to start the bike with given a 3pm start? Thanks
  2. Hey everyone! I'm a fairly active woman, in my mid-twenties (1.68 m tall) looking for a mtb within a budget of approximately 3.5 to 4.8k. I just had my entry-level Raleigh nomad 90 26" bike stolen. So, looking to slightly upgrade from this. My aim is to find something that is budget-friendly as well as won't need replacing within a year or two at least. I would potentially like to enter races in the future, I used to run 5 and 10k races (with the intention to do longer ones) but recently stopped due to achilles injuries. I have heard that road bikes tend to be more difficult to ride for beginners. I live in Somerset West so would be riding around here and possibly to Stellenbosch. I found a few second-hand bikes which I will list below: -GT Karakoram 3.0 29" wheels, 3x9 groupset, medium frame. Hydraulic disc brakes. Grossmark 11 alexrims MD19 tyres. Shimano Alvio gear set. rear derailleur. Shimano Acera crankset. for 5.5k (a bit out of my budget). -GT Karakoram medium frame with deore xt components. Magura brake levers. 29-inch new Hornet tubeless tyres (ridden twice). New saddle. Just had a service. Spare saddle and cycle clothing included. At 4.9k. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/551320800270968/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post -Titan Racing Calypso Cruz 650b medium frame 27.5-inch wheels. tubeless Vittore tyres. Hydraulic disc brakes. Shimano Altus rear derailleur.. All Shimano components for 6.5k. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/713574107217115/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post Titan Calypso 27.5" tyres. Unsure of sizing, https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/572736628032405/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post -Titan Racing Rogue SE second hand for 5.5k. Ad did not include specs but the bike is apparently close to brand new, have added a link to the official site for specs here https://titanracingbikes.com/bikes/rogue-se/ -Merida 1: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/213050991346228/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post 2: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1305792310280194/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post What would be the best bang for my buck out of the above? Or alternatively any other recommendations in this range? Any advice would be greatly appreciated Updated: links Thanks in advance.
  3. Hey everyone, I'm fairly new to the cycling scene. I recently had my raleigh nomad 90 mtb stolen and I'm looking to upgrade and replace it. Is the Merida Matts TFS 500 a decent entry level bike? It's going for about 4k. Unsure what year this model is. I have another post up about other bikes that I've seen online but I thought I'd message about the Merida separately as no one has responded to those. Thanks in advance.
  4. Hi. I am interested in starting to ride. Particularly for daily campus commute in the city and it would be nice to use the same bike for leisure otherwise (not too hard trails etc). I've seen the Raleigh Volt 24" e bike on sale and yet I've seen people saying not to buy raleighs or bikes from makro/game on this website? I used to ride when I was a kid (had one of those BMX bikes with reverse brakes for many years...a raleigh which held up well). Since then it's only been hiring bikes on holiday once in a while. I am not fit at all but I am young and do quite a bit of walking. I am about 60kg and 175-180cm tall (and wear size 11s...dk if that affects bike riding). Not fit at all (7 minutes of indoor football has me finished). It's a major reason I'd prefer an e bike. Campus is about 5km away...it's a 40 min walk and a 10-15 min drive. It is near the city centre so regardless of the bike safety is an issue. I'm also an unemployed student. Both these reasons have me wanting a bike that is cheaper. Also I might be carrying heavy textbooks in a backpack/on a rack at the back so weight might increase even above 80kg. I wanted to know if the Raleigh Volt 24" e bike is a worthwhile buy. Both for my size/weight and long term use. Daily commute plus occasional trails. There's another Raleigh e bike called the Glide (29") that's usually cheaper but rn the Volt 24" is on sale. Anyone used Raleigh e bikes? (these 2 and Volt 29" as they seem to be of similiar build and are the only ones available in SA...there's much nicer ones overseas) . I've seen people talking quite negatively about them on this forum but I don't think they've even used them. If anyone has ridden them or knows of someone who has please tell me if I will be wasting my money or is it a worthwhile investment. I'd love for it to last me years but honestly I'd be content if it holds up perfectly for over a year of daily use. I'd also need it to be comfortable enough especially with added textbook weight and not give me any problems to fix. Please assist.
  5. Hi all. I have a very old Avalanche ATX 250 that I got when I was younger as a gift. Fast forward a lot of years and I've started riding around work (I work at a school and I find it safer to ride around the school grounds than to ride on the road) and I'm starting to enjoy it. The thing is, my bike is obviously not great. It doesn't even have front suspension. I think it might be a youth bike because when I tried to figure out the frame size it has size 16 on it. I'm looking to get a new bike that has some front suspension. I don't want to spend more than like R6000 on a new bike because I don't know if the cycling thing is actually going to stick. I'm probably not going to be doing much trail stuff, but I would like a bike that wouldn't fall apart if I did try out some casual trail riding. Because my bike would need to fit in my car for transport reasons, I'd need quick release wheels (and I'd like a quick release seat post because I'm not great at setting my seat height and I play around with it a lot). I would like to use the bike to enter some road races in the future, so I'll be changing my tyres to slicks for those and I think quick release wheels would make that job easier as well. I'm only 156cm tall, so I think I need a size small frame. I'd really appreciate some advice on bikes and brands that might work for me because I'm clearly in the dark a little bit. I know some budget brands are not very safe, so if anyone could steer me away from brands to avoid, I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance!
  6. Hi, there, brand new here. I haven't ridden much since living in London some years ago (and my days as a barefoot kid on country roads back in the 90's). My fiancé and I are keen to use bikes for both getting around (mix of gravel and tar roads) and for getting into some basic mountain biking (very tame initially) We went into The Bike Shop in Plettenberg Bay and the very knowledgeable Kevin recommended some Specialized bikes for around R12k each (a little above our ideal budget of 10k per bike), which seemed like a good starting place. Then a friend of ours said that buying new is a bad idea and told us about the Bike Hub, saying that we could spend much better money getting second hand bikes here...and so here we are. Thing is I have no idea of: what to look for in terms of features like brakes, shocks, size, wheels, etc what to pay if a bike has potential issues etc So, oh wise ones of Bike Hub, do we: Buy new bikes and have the joy of trusting a professional Learn at the feet of the oracle here on bike hub and buy second hand ones Become horse-riders? Thanks a bunch, wishing y'all a merry day Nathan and Carly
  7. Completely new to cycling, so want to start out with a lower budget bike (don't want to invest too much in case I lose interest). Max budget is R7500. Are any of the options below decent, or would it better to go the second hand route? Newbie here

Howsit guys, newbie here. Looking to join you guys and gain some much much much needed advise and tips here and there. So I have decided I spend way too much time on my PC gaming and that I should take up and outdoor hobby and MTB is that hobby. I have almost no knowledge however on the topic/hobby, I used to ride those "Makro special" bikes casually with some friends but that is about it.... never have I gone offroad, nevermind trails. Just some reading on the stickies here has convinced me to stay clear of those "Makro specials". I am now looking for something decent and affordable. I am however in no rush since I am still recovering from a dislocated elbow joint. H However I came across a few ads in my budget (R3k-R4k, I know its tiny however I am willing to upgrade in 8 months should I still be hooked). As I mentioned, I have basically 0 knowledge so I dont know what I should be looking out for besides: -disk brakes as opposed to rim brakes -good branded derailer and shifters Anything else? The ads I have come across for about R3k: Mongoose tyax - http://www.mongoose.com/usa/tyax-comp-20675https://www.olx.co.za/item/titan-249r-iid-1059276436#notificationpermission Would these be okay for atleast 8 months or so or should I rather keep searching since I will not be riding for atleast another month anyway
  9. Hi Guys Recently purchased a road bike and I am new to cycling. I live in Sunninghill, and would like to ride early on Saturday or Sunday Mornings preferably in Sunninghill/Barbecue Downs, Waterfall or Paulshoff 1) Please can I have some tips on how to become a balanced and more confident rider 2) Are there any riders, groups or clubs that I may join or would be interested to ride with me to help with the above. Any assistance or guidance will be welcomed Thanks in Advance
  10. Hi everyone, I am looking for a bit of help. I am looking at getting into this sport and have been for while, so it is only inevitable until I start. The point of this post is regarding actually going for a ride. Now I have searched this section, however, nothing came up to exactly what I am looking for. See below a couple questions I have: I have 'ridden' a mtb before, but some years ago when I was a kid. Riding mtb on a trail I suspect is very different. What are the very first techniques/positioning/skills one should pay attention to honing when out on a trail? Trail markings - how easy is the 'easy route'? is it for the wife and kids, and one gets very bored quickly there? or is it the perfect route to get started? Certain skillsets (hopping etc.) are needed. Best way to learn these? I am relatively fit (swimming 1k to 2k in a training session and play a bit of sports on the weekend), however, I am sure mtb fit is a different story. How far should one go on their first venture out? without being to short but not long enough to kill me and make me never want to come back? Also, best way to increase the distance as you go along? Tech that is vital to measure the ride? Is a Garmin computer which costs a couple grand necessary for someone who is new? Or would Strava prove to be a better starting point? I know the majority of these questions are loaded, and would depend on me as a person, so do not focus on that. What I am looking at gaining out of these questions is how YOU did it, as personal experience can be adapted and holds invaluable lessons. Thanks very much
  11. Hello everyone For about four years now I've been telling myself I want to get into mountain biking. I've tried it a few times with rented bikes and absolutely loved it. So I'm looking at buying myself a bike. Problem is, I know almost nothing about bikes. I've been to a few shops and been offered entry level bikes ranging from R4000 to R10,000. I don't want to get ripped off but I also don't want to buy a terrible bike that won't last long. I'm a 25 year old male, weighting 95kg and 1.89m tall. What type of bike should I get? Any brands you can recommend and where to buy them? Thanks very much for your time.
  12. Hi Bikehub So just some background on myself - 23 years old, and have a really big Motocross background (about 8 years) and about 4 or so years of some BMX riding. The BMX riding included both street and dirt but mainly was time to spend time with mates and have a bit of fun off from Moto. Unfortunately though, I don't do either anymore. Haven't ridden a BMX in a couple years now I have always had a proper interest in Slopestyle Mountain Biking and Downhill. They were both sports, in my opinion, that resonated with Motocross really well. From the style of riding, to the riders themselves and the culture surrounding the sport, it was always something I could relate to really well. I've followed the sport ever since - almost equally as closely as Moto. So to fast-forward to today, I am dying to start riding some Slopestyle/Dirt again, but this time on a Hardtale And this is where the questions come in: How active is the sport in South Africa, but more specifically Gauteng? Riding alone SUCKS, I know that from experience. Even maybe some BMX groups that have some decent sized jumps they frequent? How and where do I begin looking for the whips needed to start? All the Online Cycling Stores seem to focus on MTB and Road and don't offer much direction in regard to what im looking for - even second hand if there is a market at all for them. I have found some but not worth my money. Any feedback here would be appreciated
  13. Hello So I've been doing indoor spinning for 5 months now,and I'd like to join the group who goes mountain biking over weekends for the real deal. First I need a proper bike, before going shopping for a bike,I'm trying to figure out what size I should be looking for. I'm 1.61m and my inseam is 72cm. Thanks in advance
  14. How do I know which bike to buy? I have recently started cycling as a new hobby and I have already owned and got rid of 2 bikes in one month. I bought my first bike same day I joined bikehub.co.za. My first one was Merida big 7 TFS 100, it didn't feel comfortable so I swapped for Momsen AL129 which I later sold. I'm 1.68m tall, weigh 70kg. What are the steps I should know when I buy a mountain bike? I'm short but I don't want a 26" mountain bike. My budget is R5000
  15. Gooday All, I am still looking at getting a mountain bike for this year. My budget is still very limited and capped at 5k. I cannot extend it at all. There is no use in looking in the classifieds as I need an XL frame and they are rarer then hens teeth, so no luck there. I will be using the bike for weight loss and exercise, going on very basic trails around BRB and the like. (think more 'around the block jog' than '100m extreme dash') I found the best value for money bike for this use would be the Axis A70 for R4.5k brand new (2016 model). The fact that they are controlled and owned by Scott bikes I would think that it is a very capable and better quality budget bike. My biggest surprise is that in this price range, you generally find mechanical disks. This bike has hydraulic disks, and it has a lockout fork! (albeit coil). http://www.axis-bikes.com/bikes/path-and-trail-series/a70 Any thoughts and/or experiences you care to share? Regards.
  16. I bought a mountain bike roughly 2 years ago, and don't think I've done more than 20kms on it since. I was convinced (much to my objection), to go straight into cleats without really learning to ride the thing first. To say I fell a lot is an understatement. I was constantly on the floor, stuck under the bike. This was a huge put-off as a beginner, and I slowly lost interest and became more and more terrified of getting on the bike. I recently decided to sell my bike, but have now decided to give it one more go before I get rid of the thing. Where do I begin?????!!!!! I can't go out onto the road as I'm absolutely terrified I'd just ride into a car or fall under one! (I'm really that bad!) I'm like an awkward toddler learning to ride a bike for the first time, except I'm stuck to the thing! And I don't know anyone else who rides, let alone as complete a beginner as I am! Are there any BeginnerBeginnerLikeReallyBeginner groups that meet anywhere? Or anywhere I can go to just try to learn to stay on the bike? :-D I'm in Northcliff by the way.
  17. Hi Guys I hope you guys aren't sick of answering newbie posts by now, I would really appreciate some advice on a few topics. I have recently had a knee operation so all I can do(at a high level of effort) really is cycle at the moment. If the bug bites I'll look at getting a higher quality bike but for the mean time I am looking for an entry level bike((29er) that is new. I know a second hand higher quality bike(26er) is often suggested but as I said if the bug bites I'll upgrade. I'm going to be mainly riding on the wine farms around the Cape so nothing too hectic for now. I am looking at the following bikes: "Titan Ryde 29er 2016" or "Titan Cruz 29er 2015" or "Merida Big 9 20D" My price range is between R4000 to R6000. a few questions: 1) Any other suggestions of new bikes in that price range? 2) I am just over 100kg so would these bikes be alright? 3) Best/Most resonable bike shops in the Cape? 4) I'm 1.79m, what size frame would i need? Thanks guys really appreciate the help
  18. Hi everyone I read some articles online, but I am still confused about what to do about thorns. Let me explain the scenario. Last weekend my wife and I took a ride on our local trails. She runs tubeless and I run tubes with slime. One section was very thorny (duiweldorings) and both of us picked up a number of thorns, which we left in place. Her tyres seemed to be fine during the ride, while mine lost a little bit of air. On Monday I went to check on the bikes and her tubeless was fine, and to my surprise, so was my slime tubes. So here are my questions: 1. Does one always leave in thorns (both tubeless and tubes with slime)? 2. Am I correct that should my tubes with slime be flat tonight, I must remove all thorns, and then patch up the holes? 3. What will happen if I give my tubes with slime some air, will the thorns cause more damage, leading to a flat, due to the increased pressure? 4. What do I do if her tubeless is flat tonight? Thank you!
  19. Ok, it's the question all newbies pose.... Please can I have your opinions about the Scott Aspect 930 (2014) http://www.vitalmtb.com/product/guide/Bikes,3/Scott/Aspect-930,13565#product-specs Rider type...woman, newbie, will mainly do leisure and a few pavements but if the bug bites.... Is a 29" good, bad or inconsequential for a girl newbie? After discount 6k? Your thoughts please
  20. First time posting and wanting to get my first bike. I saw this special and desperately wanted to order but they only have an XS (15") it is just a bit too small, I thought I'd share it. Scott Aspect 610 -2013 for R5999.99 - new. http://www.vbike.co.za/scott-aspect-610-2013/ No, I have nothing to do with vbike, but from other posts I've seen they are reputable. It seems like such a great deal, just not available in a small. Maybe another newbie on a tight budget or someone looking for an XS, could benefit....
