  1. just ordered my brand new Argon 18 from Cycletech - busy being built - all in anticipation of a very good year of Jailbreak, IM70.3 and then full IM, cant wait!
  2. thanks again all - when going for my lactate tests they use one of those fancy Tacx with the computer etc. - the ones that adjusts gradient etc by itself when simmulating a specific cycling course etc. - guess one of those will make a bit of a difference, but the cheap IDT's is defenitely boredom to the max! for Interval and HR interval sessions an IDT is ideal - cant really do them on the road due to robots, traffic etc. so there is a place for it I guess. I agree with SwissVan - it does feel like it works different muscles, so to long sitting up I think is a bit of a waste. will just have to watch more movies/series and keep my hands on the bar.
  3. HI Thanks for the advice from everyone - I train for Triathlons, I do the sprints, but mostly for Ironman, jailbreak etc. I have a coach and sometimes I have just an easy ride on the weekend 2,5hour to 3hours and cant get out, also have 2 small kids, so sometimes to make time I have to do it late night, early am or lunchtime while my wife is out and kids are sleeping, so I have to be around or when ever - I guess circumstances sometimes prohibits me from going out. I find my interval sessions goes quickly and I tend to find them ok - its just the longer ones where I cant get out. i am looking at getting rollers, thanks for the advice and for the nice interval sessions, much appreciated. I am mostly worried that I work different/wrong muscles by sitting up.
  4. Hi, I have been doing lots of hours on the IDT the past few months, and when doing long sessions like 2+ hours on the IDT I find it extremely boring. I tend to grab a magazine/book and end up sitting up and cycle - this is quite a change to my body position when cycling on the road. I was wondering if the sitting up is possibly not that great or if it works other muscles in your legs etc? any help will be appreciated.
  5. thanks CharlV - one thing I could not yet get myself to do was to use the IDT, tried it once and it was the worst experience ever. I live in cape town, milnerton, and even in the days when the wind pumps 50kph i cycle on the road. Spinning is as close to a IDT I can go.
  6. what i meant was - when im fit on the road a spinning class seems easy and I do well compared to when im not that roadbike fit.
  7. Thanks Gents, I have actually been cycling for a while - also just do the odd spinning class once a week in my lunch hour and everytime Im in the class I always wonder if it helps - what I can say is when im feeling good and fit on my road bike and kickass in a spinning class compared to off season.
  8. Hi, This is probably a topic that has been discussed before, but maybe there is some new input/value add for some of the newbies to this forum like myself. Basic - does a spinning class in gym help for cycle fitness? Is spinning a good way of training for cycling? thanks
