  1. Thanks Gents.

Mine did not and I tried our local (1 and only) Specialized store and the guy there was about as helpful as a chocolate tea pot.

Over the last couple of weeks they have tried to sell my a 58cm frame when I definately need a 61, told me that specialized had stopped making 61cm frames when I asked them to order me one and today told me that no such adaptors exists and I need a specialized crank. Anyway that is a rant for a different day.

In the mean time I now know what I need and will seek out the lightest one I can find.

    Cheers

  2. It seems like I've answered most of my own question... The specialized OSBB is in fact what everyone else calls BB30. So I need a BB30 adaptor. I would still be grateful if someone has a link to one that they could show me so I know that I order the correct thing.

  3. Hello,

Can someone please enlighten me as to what I need to convert a Specialized OSBB frame so that it can take standard DuraAce cranks? I know there is some sort of adaptor that you can get but I'm just not sure what it's called.

    Thanks

    Cameron

  4. It's not the shops rule it's Specialized. I assume to protect the local RSA guys. Apparently they're pretty strict about it and if they find you breaking the rules will take away your agency. I heard it happened to a couple of shops in the US.

  5. I got it from a shop called Sigma Sport in Kingston. It was my LBS when I lived in London. Trust me when I tell you that NO authorized Specialized dealer in the UK will ship internationally. It's against Specialized rules. They will ship plenty of other brands but not Spesh. Trek have the same rule.

  6. Thanks Bru. I found a similar one that can do it via UPS for 162 or 220 with full insurance so think I will just go for that.

You are right though the issue is the voumetric weight... the actual package weight less than 5kg but the volumetric weight is nearly 30!!

I'd glady give you 220 towards your plane to ticket to bring it over for me. The frame will be in Wimbledon from tomorrow morning. Bring it next weekend and you can come and watch the opening round of the super 15.

Yes I already brought it. Costing me an arm and a leg! Once I add in shipping, taxes and the exchange rate it will be more that it costs here. Its a Specialized and they do not have my size in SA and cannot tell me when they will get stock. Shops in the UK will not ship internationally so I had to get it sent to a mate who will then send it to me. Pain in the ass.

  7. I just had my Titus El Guapo frame shipped over from On-One in the UK. Full tracking for 28 pounds.

Box with frame and a couple of other goodies arrived intact and unpilfered!

This is breaking my heart! Do you know who it was shipped with? Also if you are feeling kind any chance you could please measure the box it was shipped in? Need to know LxWxH to calculate shipping.

  8. Hello

Has anyone every shipped a frame over from the UK? If so what method did you use?

If you look on CRC or Wiggle they do them for less than 100 pounds but if I look myself on UPS, DHL etc, the cheapest I can find is about 300 pounds. I know that they obviously get massive discounts for the volumes they ship but still!

Anyway if anyone has found a cost effective way of doing this I would love to hear about it.

    Cheers

p.s, I am aware I'll need to pay VAT and customs clearing fees (but no duty).

  9. I'm starting this new event thread since I haven't seen it anywhere else on the Hub.

It seems I'm not the best at searching on the web or the CSA website, but I've found the following on their website. Does anybody have more information regarding the route, profile, etc.?

I rode the KZN road champs a few weeks ago on this course. It is pretty tough consisting of 9 x 14km laps for the 126km race. Each lap is more or less 5km of downhill, 5km of uphill and 4km of rolling. There was a total of 1800m of climbing over the 126km which is quite a lot in my book. It is a good course though on good roads (double lane highway) and not technical at all apart from the turn around at the bottom end of the course.

I've got my garmin profile but don't know how you add pictures but send me your email and I will send it to you.

I didn't do the TT but it is laps down on the beach front. Pan flat and fast although maybe difficult if the wind is pumping. Also on very good roads. I've done a couple of triathlons down on the same course.

  10. If you'll look at a Moser let me know, I can bring you in a 111 full carbon with Ultegra or Athena for that price. WIth Fulcrum wheels. I've already brought in 2 from Italy over the last few weeks and they're fantastic.

I don't know much about Moser but that it a sweet looking bike!

I'm surpised you can still get Ultegra equipped bikes for 20k. I guess they must be saving money on the wheels.

  11. Stand-alone marathon time can not really be compared to the marathon/run time at the end of an IRONMAN.

@ gummibear - ^^^ What he said!!... +2:46 standalone is quick but nothing special these days.

BTW I am a massive Armstrong fan and nothing would make me happier than to see him win Kona one day. Realistically against guys who have been running their whole lives I am not so sure he has a chance unless he can build a massive lead on the bike.

  12. There will be another dealer in the Durban area but we are currently not in a position to confirm further details.

We have setup a brand new operation which is aligned to the way it has been successfully done all over the world.

Significant growth in South Africa and Africa is anticipated for which we have planned and prepared for. The year 2012 is the beginning of a new era for Specialized Bicycles in Africa.

I've got to say that making your product inacessable is an interesting business concept! How is this aligned to the rest of the world? For example, in the UK, you can buy specialized in just about every bike store as well as the concept stores and online.

Let me give you an true example... I need a new pair of gloves and a helmet. Am I going to drive over and hour to go and get them from my nearest Specialized dealer or am I going to go and get some Giro ones from my LBS, I think the choice is obvious. The only thing I will probably go out my way for is shoes and a new frame/bike if I had a particular one in mind.

I am also exactly the sort of customer you wish to retain because I have a decently sized disposable income that I happen to like spending on bicycles.

I'm not trying to shoot you down just as you start but I've got to say I can't see the sense in this.

  13. South African riders,

Please visit our official website www.specialized.com - choose region South Africa, to see the new dealer list. All new Specialized dealers were notified prior to our operations launch on Feb 1st 2012.

A successful test order on our new system was done and today Tuesday 7 Feb the first actual orders have been placed. Bicycles and equipment will start arriving at our dealers from Thursday 9 Feb. Please contact your nearest dealer for more information.

We are very excited and look forward to a bright future in South Africa.

I just looked at your map a little closer. So you've got 6 stores in JHB, 5 in CT and 1 in Durban. Are you trying to make it hard to buy your products?

Why have you seemingly so radically reduced the number of dealers that you have or are the just not listed yet? Only one in the whole of the greater durban area is not good.

  15. If you want a book that gives you specific programs already laid out for your try Iron Fit by Don Fink. If you want to learn about training and formulating your own programs try Going Long or the Triathlete's Training Bible. Both are by Joe Friel.

  16. We leave the BP at 530 but I don't think there will be anyone about tomorrow as a few of us are racing. Go past though - you never know. Otherwise will be riding on Tuesday at 530.
