  1. I just thought I'd let all you thoughtful contributors to this forum topic know that my creaky problem was ultimately resolved. The bike shop - Dunkeld Cycles (@Marco - you wanted to know) sorted it out after some initial difficulty. William & two mechanics at Dunkeld Cycles isolated the problem by simply switching out the rear wheel. Noise gone! Turned out to be a worn bearing seating in one end of the driver body. So although they'd previously replaced all four bearings, the worn seating meant that the new bearing was loose in the driver body. It's apparently meant to be banged in there with a mallet/hammer. That play caused the cassette to move about & perhaps even 'wobble' - resulting in that very annoying drivetrain noise. Rode a 60km race in mud & rain after it was fixed & all went well! The bike shop did good & credited me on the bearings. The driver body sans bearings didn't break the bank. I reciprocated & bought the three of them a six pack of beers each. I was warned about going down the rabbit hole of chasing noises. There are one or two other click noises on the bike, so will probably change all pivot bearings next. But at least I'm sorted on the drivetrain noise. Tuning other noises out & determined to enjoy the riding! Thanks again.
  2. Thanks, appreciate you sharing the info!
  3. Oh crap! Thanks
  4. Btw, did you ever have additional problems with the cranks that were replaced under warranty? I'm considering another set of Next SL cranks I've seen available (used, but apparently in 'good' condition with no sign of delimitation).
  5. Thanks; I'm gonna check my cassette...
  6. Waiting for bike shop to tell me about adapting to the 24mm; no chain replacement yet - it's not yet at 0.5 wear (XTR chain with the hollow pins = $$)
  7. Thanks Martin!
  8. The bike in question has a pressfit BB92
  9. It was six other bearings that were replaced - not any of the pivots - yet. You are correct; there seem to be 10 pivot bearings in total on the Scott RC 900 Pro (it's the 2020 bike - without the integrated shock design). Bike shop guy probably wants to do the four main pivot bearings, but I'm first waiting to see how they get on with replacing the cranks & ring.
  10. Crikey. Creakey! I'm gonna make a note to check the chain (master link). Creaking & squeaking is no good. I had a hip replaced a few years back. The ball (that fits into the socket) is made from ceramic, but the acetabulum (socket) is made from a specially treated polyethylene (the inexpensive stuff they make canoes from). Why not make the socket from a ceramic as well? Because it will squeak. Other people will hear you coming. That's a much bigger problem than a squeaky, creaky bicycle!
  11. I'd rather not say for now; wanna give them a chance to get this right...
  12. Thinking of renaming this topic "The Creak Epic"!
  13. Great story. Thanks Eugene!
  14. 😆
  15. Thanks for your insights Michael. The bike is back at the shop - 'reserve bike' too. Test rode this morning to see I could isolate a delaminating crank arm. Tried pedaling only one side at a time, but the creak still comes through. It's definitely a creak that is generated by higher pedal loading. So decided to have the bike shop cannibalise some older XT cranks & ring from my reserve bike. There is definitely play on the drive side crank arm in the female pedal thread, so that's some delamination in there. So won't hurt to swap out the cranks for now. Starting to understand why Shimano never got into carbon cranks... Bike shop guy is adamant that the creaking is coming from one or more pivot bearings & wants to replace all four. This is after replacing EIGHT bearings already: BB, Headset, 4 in the rear wheel & two in the front 🥵 I'm not convinced it's pivot bearings... Also hope they can adapt my BB standard to a 104 BCD ring & crank arrangement. Don't really want to buy new cranks! Ultimately, I'll have to start working on bikes myself. Just procrastinating that one for now.
  16. Great video, thanks!
  17. 'Drop'? I meant 'Droo'!
  18. Thanks 'Drop'! Appreciate all the helpful advice on this forum.
  19. Thanks Pandatron, Barry; I think we may be getting somewhere on this...
  20. Thanks Barry, Alouette3. Will try... But I do sense an impending Rabbit Hole.
  21. Having some trouble with a creaking around the BB area - on my Scott RC Pro with Raceface ring & carbon cranks. Bike shop replaced BB with pricey Token Ninja product. Creaking is back after less than 100km riding. And exact same noise as experienced before the bearing was replaced. Now they want to replace a big pivot bearing. But the creaking only happens when pedalling. So surely the pivot can't be the problem? Any advice most welcome. Brett
