  1. Hi all, I am planning a cycling holiday in the Karoo. I need to rent a 4 bicycle towbar platform carrier. Any referrals for vendors?
  2. Hi All, Much excitement... I own my very first Steel Frame bike. A Bridgestone RB-2. I like the look of the geometry and the condition is impressive, she has been stuck in a roof for 10 years!!! A bit of Googling and I'm guessing this bike is a 93 model. Specs... Shimano Exage Group Wolber WTX Rims with 105 hubs. The plan... This is where I need some advice/guidance. - Replace the brake lever hoods... Where can I get these? - Rebuild the wheelset with new spokes... Who is my best Cape Town option? And what is the expense likely to be? - Clean and polish the components - I would like to put on gum walled tires - Touch up minor chips on the paintwork and clear coat the bike. The paint work is in quite good condition Any other advice would be greatly appreciated!
  3. Just a note to anybody who stumbles across this... There is a reward for the computers return. Simply contact Greg on 0718832443
  4. A quick google search shows that this model has a habit of jumping off on the ruff stuff, didnt even notice knocking it off
  5. A bit of a stab in the dark... Is there an Argus Lost and found? Lost my Sigma 1909 computer around Between Smitz and misty cliffs
  6. I will probably use my Tiagra 10 speed group as it has been very reliable, although not the lightest. I have been offered the frame for a reasonable price so really the question is AXIS vs Felt FA. Thanks
  7. Hi All, Looking to build up a bike with the FELT FA frame Any experience with this Alloy frame, seems to have Carbon seat stays. Currently riding an AXIS Tiagra entry level bike, would this be a substantial upgrade? http://2009.feltracing.com/09/images/catalog/large/12509.png

  9. Thanks guys, Great advice...
  10. Hi Hubbers, I am building up a CAAD10 and need some BB30 advice. The frame I purchased had bearings installed but the left side feels rough, a bit of googling and im worried about this new "standard" as they dont seem to be all that durable. The questions: 1) Does this sound like a clear replacement issue? 2) Which brand has the best quality/price? 3) Who knows a good shop/mechanic for installation in Cape Town? Not sure if it makes a difference but I picked up a FSA gossamer 50/34 BB30 crank for my Caad10. Thanks

    argus times

Argus Newbie starting way way back with the unseeded PPA members. Was aiming for a 4h30, the traffic got heavy around Smitz, 2h09 at the half way. My race was stuffed when I was forced to walk the last bit of Chappies due to a monster traffic jam of walkers (25min), dont blame them, the tempreture was 43 degrees! Limped in with a 5h09, pity I feel like a sub 4 will be easy to achieve next year, I MUST seed though! Great gees along the route!

  16. I have seen this bike. I am a medium unfortunately. The search is well under way!
  17. Great advice guys...thanks! This really is a great forum. I am keeping my eye open for a good used medium bike that can serve me well.
  18. Hi Guys, Looking to buy a good used beginners Bike on a budget of R5000. I have my eye on the Scott Speedster S50 or Merida 901. What else is available or could you suggest in this price range? My size is Medium - 54cm. I am 177cm tall
  19. Right, I am a complete novice to cycling. I live in Cape Town and the Argus bug has bitten me. Obvious next step: Purchase my first bike since I was a kid. The Problem: Either Bike Shops are great sales people and know their field or the are trying to drain me of every last cent. I had done a bit of Googling and decided that a Scott Speedster S50 was a good starter bike. I liked the look and reviews I had read, no rocket ship but it seemed like a solid piece of kit. I basically went into my local store expecting to pick one up or place an order. After visiting 2 shops now my head is spinning, both basically said I was wasting money unless I was buying in the R15k range. I am not looking to race the bike. Commuting to gym/work occasionally, weekend rides and the occasional Argus or other local ride will be the life of this bike. I am looking for something fairly bulletproof as I probably will probably not be gentle on the bike as I am a novice. What can you my far more experienced cyclists suggest?
