  1. If you dont end up buying dual 29er, you'll always going to wonder if you should have bought one, it's the ultimate allrounder, as you can ride it anywhere at a good pace. If you havent got the cash to buy something really light, then buy a good brand name, and plan on upgrading to the lightest tyres and wheel set up. Happy hunting.
  2. I have just built up a Momsen Sl929 2012 Carbon Hardtail, absolutely awsome frame and handling to go, added monsem - carbon stem and bar, skewers, seat post clamp. Will be adding seat post sometime. Momsen make a very good range of products, tough light and durable, with the only restriction being your wallet.
  3. Yup its for sale, plenty of offers and visits. May end up keeping it.
  4. Dont disagree, have considered an upgrade, but i know there's aleays that one time you're going to want to race and wish for a more responsive bike.
  5. thanks hubbers, its going to come to a weight/value for money thing. 10.5 kg is a bit ambitious, becauce of pricing, so swaying towards a hardtail, for now.
  6. I know im going to get some seriously obvious answers, but the reason for my question is I'm considering replacing my Giant anthem X29Er with a 29er hardtail.Choices are Momsen,Volcan, Scott, Niner. Weight is an important factor, so sub 10,5kg is my target. Is this a dumb move, and are there huge differences in ride comfort between a carbon frame and an aliminium frame. Most of my riding would be small portion of tar, routes similar to the last PicknPay Knysna 50Km ride, single track and technical downhills. I ride almost daily, do not do any serious racing but like to compete in the odd events with distances of 80km to 130km per ride. Your views would be appreciated.
  7. I find that light wheels make a huge difference, and are a really good upgrade, especially on 29ER dual suspension bikes. I have giant anthem, on this site, under dual sus for sale. Great bike but upgraded to Stans XTR Crest, and a few other parts. Bike weighs 11.7kg without the pedals, which are very light Egg Beater3 TI.
  8. I HAVE ZTR CREST FITTED WITH DOUBLE BUTTED SPOKES, AND A2Z HUBS, WAS TOLD THAT HUBS ARE A BIT LIGHT BUT I HAVE HAD ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEMS, RIDE A VARIETY OF SINGLE TRACK, ROCKY DOWNHILLS. MY WEIGHT IS 80KG AND BIKE WEIGHS 11,7KG GIANT ANTHEM X 29ER.
  9. Yes, ZTR Crest, had them built at Rob - Cyclepro in PE, also used a combination of brass and alloy nipples, apparantly different strengths for breaking forces on spokes etc. Does carbon bar have more flex than scandium?
  10. Loving my Giant, I have a sliver L frame, also found the bike to be a bit heavy/unresponsive, so changed wheels to Stans ZTR, A2Z hubs, dubble butted spokes, Stan's tubless, Momsen bar ends, KCNC 90mm stem, KCNC seat post, Fzik Gobi saddle - very comfortable, egg beater 3 Titanium, trimmed standard flat bar to 660mm. Huge improvement with handling, from single track to downhill rocky technical stuff. Great bike and very underated in standard form. Total cost of mods +- R8k. Will be fitting 2 x 10 front crank set and carbon bar at some stage. As is bike weighs 11,3kg with pedals.
