  1. Stupid question - Running with these, means you still have to have your phone / some bluetooth connected device with you. With the size of smartphones nowadays makes running with them impractical. Does some of these have internal storage capability for music? Or what wireless headset does?
  2. So last year they posted the highlights on Youtube. This year it seems to have just broadcasted on SS and not posted anywhere? Anyone have a link to the highlights for this year?
  3. Anyone here participate in these? We have one coming up in Nelspruit on the 24th of September and I thought it a good idea to sign up for the Commando. Should be good fun, however, having never done this before I'm quite nervous!
  4. I was also in wave 2, and experienced the same. Someone knocked me so hard with an elbow at some stage that I was dizzy for a couple of minutes, even still when I got out... Made me worry at some stage if I did loose conscienceless, you would probably drown cause you'd go under fairly quickly without anyone even knowing. Wave 2 is by far the biggest group being 18 to 35, they should make it 18 to 30 or something, cause the wave after us wasn't that big. As for the rest of the race, tough! Cycle was lekker though, I passed allot of guys on the uphills. The second half of the run was brutal, I walked quite a bit and still managed n 55min run. Awesome event, looking forward to the 5150 in PE.
  5. Too all the athletes participating on Saturday, good luck! Weather looks promising, it’s going to be an awesome event yet again, can’t wait! To all the first time athletes, having done Bela bela as my first Olympic distance last year, some advice that helped me: Firstly, it’s not that tough, don’t let your mind get the better of you and stress you out the whole week, trust your training and it will pay off. Don’t overthink it. So starting with the swim, yes you can stand in the dam, don’t though, unless you feel it absolutely necessary or expect some nasty comments from other swimmers if they swim into you. The water does create a whirlpool effect and does drag you along at a faster pace, expect to be a bit faster than you were in the pool. For those that don’t have a wetsuit, the water will be cold, but not unbearable and should be fine after the first 100m anyway. I swam without one last year and managed quite well. Transition, remember you are not allowed to have any boxes or any non related extra items with you at your bike. The spaces are quite cramped – you’ll notice, so only helmet, cycling shoes, glasses, towel, running shoes cap etc. allowed next to your bike. In the warm Bela bela heat this creates a problem for your water / energy drinks in your waterbottels with the bike standing in the sun for more than an hour before the race starts. Someone advised last year to freeze the bottels beforehand, must say that worked quite well. Onto the bike. That leg is tough, as mentioned, don’t underestimate it. The tar is a coarse rough surface which doesn’t welcome smooth rolling like the smooth tarmac on the Germiston highway. There’s only one waterpoint and that’s back in town after the first lap, so be sure to stretch your water / energy drink for atleast 20km in that heat. Cars are still on the road so always be on guard for people driving like hooligans, especially in town. Remember when cycling, race number facing to the rear, when running facing forward. Then onto the run, 17m elevation. Sounds easy, after that cycle and in that heat, tough! However now running constantly through the crowd, the cheering, all the waterpoints, there’s this vibe that’s pushing you on. Can’t explain it, getting butterflies in my stomach with excitement just thinking about it! Then that plushy velvet red carpet you’ve been waiting for the whole day! Smile for the camera man, raise your arms as you cross that line! You’ve earned it. Airpunch!! After the race, that burger and beer is probably going to be one of the best you’ll ever have. Please feel free to add some useful tips that has worked for you before. See you all there!
  6. Haha, good point. I would think that the curve of the lenses and the distortion of the water would void any prescription anyway. Interesting. Maybe this is why I'm swimming so skew everytime... lol
  7. Everything is already blurry and distorted in the water, what are you trying to see? The already almost invisible buoy? Sorry, I'm just trying to figure out why? I wear glasses everyday, even have prescription lenses in my sunglasses and never once have I though I need to see better in the water...
  8. So I got the Fuji, looks really neat. First impression, remember this was my first ride ever on a road bike, and it's really uncomfortable. But boy is it fast!! Just a quick 15k ride to my swim I managed a 27km/h average. I've never seen that on my MTB with slicks hybrid. I guess with a proper fit and some time in the saddle I'm hoping I'll get used to it and it'll get comfortable.
  9. Our little one is 11 weeks old now, and training has been almost non existent. You think you'll sort of keep your fitness with the odd cycle once a week and run every now and then, then the harsh reality hits you right in the middle of Bianchi Baby's Longmere triathlon... You're nowhere close to being ready for this. You grind it out and swear, promise and pray to train harder next time. Which you don't... However what I must say what I've been doing wrong, which allot of guys are mentioning is proper planning. I'm gonna try that! Have a schedule and try stick to that. Bela bela 5150 coming up, want to be fresh and fit for that one, definitely my favourite race.

  11. I did this race last year as my first tri, and what an experience. Definitely going back this year! Anyone from the Hub joining us?
  12. I've been slacking for the past two months after my last tri, and since January been really struggling to get back into training. Is it just me, once I've lost my fitness level, it is SOOOO tough to break through that fitness barrier again, too such an extent that you are borderline just wanting to give up that's how tough it is. I know once I push through and I reach that level, training becomes a breeze, but it just feels everytime I have a lapse and have to get back into training it gets harder and harder to reach that fitness level... Am I alone here?? :-(
  13. Sadly I don't see any. I did have a look at the TT bikes on offer, and yikes... The above two are comfortably within the price range that I was looking.
  14. I did both 5150's on my 26" mountain bike. That's tough hey...
