  2. Event Name: The Quantum Leap When: 22 August 2012 - 25 August 2012 Where: Tankwa Kasroo / South Namaqua / Cederberg, Western Cape Category: Multisport Early colonial explorers ventured north from the Cape in search of adventure. What they found was more than many of them wanted or could cope with. A wilderness area where the early Khoi and San tribes lived and hunted for thousands of years. The Khoi lived and hunted on the plains whilst the San preferred the mountain and gorges of the area. Hence the numerous rock art sites in the area. These tribes battled it out against the elements and wilderness in a desperate fight for survival. The area was harsh but stunning. Nothing changed since these pioneers explored here. Since their arrival on the plains and mountainous areas, they took giant strides toward carving out a life for themselves for hundreds of thousands of years – a Quantum Leap in human terms but a mere blip in Geological terms! 6. Event Name: Stanley's Mountain And Trail Run When: 28 April 2012 Where: Ladismith High School, Western Cape Category: Trials & Dirtjump The 24km run [a Quantum Classic] starts at the sports fields in the town of Ladismith which is on the famous Route 62 in the Klein Karoo. 7. Event Name: Berg & Beach Stage Trail Run When: 6 October 2012 - 1 January 1970 Where: Fernkloof Nature Reserve, Hermanus, Western Cape Category: Multisport RUN INFO DAY 1 - 23KM BEACH/COAST [cut off = 4.5 hours] This is a flat beach – no camber and at low tide. DAY 2 - 27KM MOUNTAIN AND TRAIL. Altitude gain - 1080m. Max elevation - 726m [cut off = 5.5 hours] Distances/Dates/Times/Description 6 October - Day 1 – 23km Coast/beach run The run starts out on an old 4x4 track along the cliffs overlooking the bay for about 4km before dropping down toward the beach itself. After a couple of crossing over some rocky sections, the beach opens up and runners will be wedged between sand dunes and the water on hard packed sand. The 2 hours before and after low tide will provide enough time for the slowest runners to get to the end of the run before high tide... The area is pristine and runners will often see the "Toby" or Oyster Catcher bird which uses the areas above high tide to nest. Runners are urged to stay on the low tide sand area for this reason. There are numerous other bird species nesting along the coast here. The run takes place in during the Southern Right Whale breeding season, so you are bound to see them close inshore during the run. Start – TBA. Low tide is at ….. This will provide at least a 4hour window of hard sand. The river mouth may or may not be open. Right now it is not – rain dependant. If it is, you would need to cross the mouth at around low tide. We provide a safety paddle boat to monitor your crossing. ENSURE YOU HAVE A SMALL DRY BAG or similar to keep your watch etc water proofed for this crossing in this case. The run will then continue along the beach for another 3km along the cliff path to the Mossel River. The path then follows the river trail under and passing the main road - eventually finishing at Fernkloof Nature Reserve botanical garden. 7 October - Day 2 – 27km Mountain and trail run The day 2 run starts on a 800m section of tarred road, leading into single track hiking trail for 99% of the remainder. The tracks will contour up toward the top of the Mountain and Fernkloof Nature Reserve, making it possible to actually "run" most of this climb. The views are 2nd to none and you will be traversing valleys, ridges and plateaus rich in fynbos, bird life and higher up, the Klipspringer!
