  1. guys, I'm not at all trying to be funny here. I am seriously interested in finding out what's legal and what illegal. I have picked up one of the maps and it indicates a 26km jeep track loop, which is great. the signs will help and everything. But the truth is there are so many more trails. Some of the trails, especially on signal hill are clearly marked illegal with a R500 fine - so obviously we respect that and don't ride them. However there are a lot of other trails above higgovale and deer park and above tamboerskloof that are not marked at all, which is why we always thought it's ok to ride here (as does Mr Vogel, I see him there regularly). My fear is now that these trails will be marked as illegal, simply because they are not indicated on the map so far. maybe that'll come, but until then I assume i'll have to stay on the MTB Route? is that assumption right?
  2. serious?!? really??? are you guys self-proclaimed messiah-bikers now, or what?
  3. serious question: How many of the No 9 signs exactly are you supposed to put up and where will they spoil my fun? sad realisation: The tenderpreneur who gets to manufacture the No 9 sign will make a killing!
  4. Look guys, I'm only quoting the "rules of the trail" as stated on Rob's map of the table mountain trails, well jeep tracks... "- permits must be kept available at all times whilst utilising the trails" and "- bikers will only be allowed on existing trails as indicated on the map and will not be allowed to utilise ..... any other area" unfortunately the map does not indicate a whole lot of trails... So, while I do have an activity card in any case I know a lot of people who don't. And I am not sure if this is the case for the dog-walkers on the mountain, who, I assume, also need a level 1 permit now? Do I understand these rules correctly or am I just being ignorant? I just wanted to make sure that all you guys understand these rules you have signed up for - including Rob, who I see breaking them every time I meet him on the nice single track section that has been kept a secret on this map and therefore would not be a legal trail to ride? While I myself don't give too much of a crap about these rules to be honest, it looks to me like somebody shot himself in the foot here - quite badly in fact!
  5. looks like you got 2 jobs done so far: 1) you commercialized riding on table mountain, as your "rules of the trail" state that we will (now) have to be in possession of a permit - Thanks for that! and 2) you made it perfectly clear to everybody that riding any other trail than indicated on your map is illegal and you therefore gave every opposing dog walker more ammunition against us. well done!
  6. Hi, can I please also get this info? I'll be there next week. I rode homtini and obviously harkerville, but was also hoping there is more... especially single track, not too keen on dirt road stuff, but from the pics that were posted there seems to be a lot. please email to martinpallmann@gmail.com thanks.
  7. does anybody know of any trails in the area between wilderness and plett, other than harkerville and homtini?
  8. alright then. not gonna get any spares out of this, right? just stupid comments... guess that's the problem with the hub(bers) in the first place. @ steve: only helpful comment. Thanks! just saw nils, nice and very helpful guy! AND he does not seem to have a problem with non-hipsters that feel that gears are actually MADE FOR MOUNTAINS. if you look like this, you don't need testicles at all, ben...
  9. agh, man.. i know there are some super cool hipsters out there ... but the truth is, if you live half way up a mountain and your calves don't look like sculptures carved out of a piece of polished rock, singlespeed (one word) really doesn't cut it for you ;-)
  10. cool guys, found myself a bike. the frame is awesome, but the rest pretty crap. so now I need some spares: anybody with a wheel-set - cheap cheap and light. wanna put some fat white slicks on... handlebar, was thinking flatbar or riser, but anything goes really... also wouldn't mind putting some basic shifters and deraillers on - it came with the stylish but probably totally useless old school shifters. please shout. but hey, anywhere in CT and area... not gonna mission with jozi stuff, right? right!
  11. I need a medium... and a small for a friend
  12. sounds like a nice bike, but it is indeed too big for me. thanks
  13. Hi, I just posted an add in the classifieds, but figured I'll probably reach more of you guys in this forum... anyways, I am looking for one of these old school road bikes (see attached) to convert into a city commuter. Can anybody help? don't want to spend more than R2000.
