  1. Whats the issue with guys registering on Strava as female yet clearly a male (verified by checking on the SAS site where he is classified male Vet). Cant be a mistake, would think you would realize something is wrong when you are getting QUEEN of the mountain etc.
  2. Similar thing happened to us on Spruit ride the other day (no cars or road though). Was a night ride, came up to a group of pedestrians (5 or 6 guys) walking along the path. They were walking in single file and as we approached they moved out of the way except the last dude who pretended to trip and fell over on purpose with his leg on the path pretending to be in pain. I was prepared so was able to move out onto the grass but the situation could have ended badly.
  3. Just an update on the manhole covers. It has now turned into a bun fight between City Parks, Joburg Water and Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) with no-one accepting responsibility. I noticed that nothing has yet been done. The big sewerage spill up to Alberts has been reported - this should be fixed soon though. Cant shift blame on that one.
  4. Was up in Dullstroom last weekend for some riding and it was very very muddy. That nice red mud that just sucks your wheel and brings you to a grinding stop. That's the district road though, out Kruisfontein way. Railway line section was fast but had some seriously large puddles. Saw some snakes on that section too. If it has not rained anymore - you should be good to go! Lube lots and some.
  5. Spoke to City Parks this morning, they will send someone out today to inspect the manhole issue. Will keep you posted!
  6. Noticed last night that the manhole covers on all the outlets between Rustenberg Road and Linden road have been taken. Thanks to the fairies for putting up obstacles to warm us. Question is - where are these guardians now (city parks) as this is just plain dangerous. I will make a phone call this morning but for all their attitude, I guarantee that this issue will never be fixed. Many thanks for the awesome single track that now runs all the way down that section - so much of fun!!!
  7. Changed from Discovery Classic Comp to a Discovery Hospital Plan at the beginning of this year - saved me loads and I now negotiate with doctors and dentists. Even had a visit to casualty the other day and when you tell them you are 'private' they are quite open about doing only that which is required. I get quotes where possible and again, notice that the number of items I get billed for are way fewer than I would have if I had been on the old Classic Comp. There is no real difference as the Discovery Savings is your money, just now I get to choose how I spend it. Have to say that I do believe that there is still risk but risk vs rip off. Took my chances...
  8. Appreciate the legality and all that but you have all kept me in stitches all afternoon! Thanks
  9. Berg and Bush Magoebaskloof Barberton Smaller events include: Cowan House (Hilton) still one of my favourites for the awesome single track Red Stone Crazy Croc for a good local technical ride
  10. MTB Killi? http://www.trektravel.com/video/popup/kilimanjaro-video.html
  11. If anyone is interested I have boxes of the stuff from when my boy was little - 10 years or so ago now. For sale. Best investment I have ever made, till he was old enough to ride a bike that is. Now gathering dust in my garage and think it would be a good idea if it goes to a good home.
  12. How much should a shock service cost? Can it normally be done by your LBS or do they have to send it away. Need to get mine done and just tired of being ripped off.
  13. On my way to my ride in JHB on Saturday morning - around 5:30 am I was witness to a Polo that went right though every single red traffic light on William Nicol at significant speed nearly taking out a number of other law abiding vehicles in the process - but continued unhindered and apparently unconcerned. Take care out there everyone!
  14. As usual - always someone who missed the boat. Any one got a 70km entry they dont need.. please!
  15. Reason why they let you over the limit is so they can add a whole bunch of extra charges to your account. They are more than happy to put you in a disadvantaged position, thats how they make their money. Good clients are bad business so they adjust their systems to turn good clients to bad.
  16. I will be driving down from Gauteng for this event and am looking for ideas on interetsing places to overnight on my trip down. Any suggestions?
  17. I'm in - making an adventure holiday out of it touring the Eastern Cape a little before and after - so looking forward to it

    2012 VW Tiguan

I have a 2010 1.4 TSi - and am very happy with the car. I am not too clued upon the technical (girl person) but I needed the reliability and simple girl prooof 4 wheel drive capability as I often travel long distances alone. Loads of space for bikes and kids and gear, great ground clerance and with the 4 motion and what appears to me to be lots of torque means I can take on the dirt roads (even tar in some parts of the country ) without concern. Still small enough to fit into most parking pays as well. Downsides - I have the run flats, do tend to make the car a bit hard on the road. Also, the electronic handbreak takes some getting used to. Driving with the windows open tends to create noise but if you have a sunroof, just a tilt and it is all fine.
  19. Its not only where you ride but who you ride with. Even an amble up the Spruit can be a great ride if the company is good.
  20. The cutist most awesomeness little XS Black Yeti ASR ever!
