  1. Any news when entries open?
  2. Thanks for all the responses thus far – keep it coming. Just for clarity, the Pinarello is also a carbon frame and has a carbon steerer. The TCR has an aluminium steerer but carbon fork. My concern is that the FP2 has been superseded by the FP Due. I would like to know if the FP2 is still an up-to-date frame especially if one is to compare it with the TCR comp.
  3. Due to unavailable stock in my size for a 2013 Giant TCR composite 2, my LBS offered me to build up a bike on a Pinarello FP2 frame (supposedly 2011 or 2012) with the Giant’s parts for the same price. Is this frame better than the Giant’s and would this be a smart move? I’m new to road cycling and would like to keep the bike for some time.
  4. What a tragic ending to such an accomplished life. You will be missed.
  5. How will the seeding for a rider be done?

  7. Does anyone know more about this event? Is it a SAS administered race?
  8. These ramps and floating bridges just don’t work in race with 1000+ entries. It’s in any case not a challenge for the fast riders, the slow riders will in any case walk these sections and the intermediate riders will attempt them and risk falling. The bottlenecks just aren’t worth the technical excitement they may offer for some.
  9. MTB, I ride stuff like Northern Farms, Groenkloof, Rosemary Hills, etc.
  10. I usually ride alone or at most with one other person. I usually pass allot of slower people on the trails. I’m going to race my first event in September and would like to determine what level rider I am. I usually ride +-35km at 22km/h average that includes a bit of everything (climbs, downhills, jeep tracks, single tracks). I never stop to rest either. Am I an average, above or below par rider compared to those who compete in events?
  11. I put a Monorail on the front. I’d say it’s definitely addressed the crossmark’s wide washing cornering and the steering feels more direct. Threw it around at speed on loose surface and grips very well but once it loses grip, you go sideways very quickly unlike the more progressive slide of a crossmark. Just now had a look at reviews for the Ardent, looks like a very good tyre. Heard good things as mentioned here about Contis but it seems they are not as durable.
  12. Yes, rolling resistance is definitely important, weight not so much. Tyres came with new bike so want to substitute the front Crossmark to keep for the rear once these have worn down; but only if there will be a big improvement over the cross marks. Someone else recommended Rubena, never heard of them before.
  13. Currently ride 2.1 Maxxis Crossmarks front and rear but the front is a bit sketchy in the corners. Will there be a worthwhile improvement by putting a Monorail at the front? Should I stick to 2.1 or go wider?
  14. I like that , hope though to get mine fixed so that I can live with them.
  15. Bought a new bike one month ago with 2011 Avid Elixir 5 brakes and G3cs rotors. Almost immediately they developed a shudder front and rear under moderate to hard braking also making a grinding noise. Continued riding for 250 km and no change so took it back. The shop put on new pads and blamed it on improper bedding in. Bedded them in properly and 2 km later same problem (front and rear). Shop replaced rotors claiming they were warped and yes you’ve guessed right, after proper bedding in exactly the same happened. Brakes are now sent back to Avid.
