  1. personal preference. shimano or sram (or microshift/token). then depends what you can afford, & if u a weight weenie, what you like the look of etc...
  2. do a search on here cracked carbon frames. there was a topic on it a while ago. or try search for the guy that owned produx - he had repaired someones bike
  3. lots of people are crying about the cost of epic. i certainly can't afford it now (and would like to be able to), but there is obviously nothing wrong with the pricing if all the entries get sold. supply and demand
  4. i think its a question of leverage - the rear derailers move a different amount accross for the same amount of cable pulled by the shifter
  5. hey BeeT, there is nothing wrong with that - it's a race and you have to be cleaver. if you don't like it, then slow down, let him past and stick on his wheel, or up the pace and get away from him
  6. wow, R25 now. last time i paid i think it was about R15.
  7. i woudn't say there are any specific routes - you kinda take which turns you feel like and how far you want to go. i'd def try go with someone who knows the area as the roads aren't all marked and i don't think all the single track is marked/ i don;t think you'll find it all. awsum riding - just go with some1 in the begining
  8. i remember speaking to a guy that was involved in development cycling and also officiating (spelling) in the ironman. he swore it wasn't a good thing for a bike and had said one of his alu bikes had broken near the bb. something to do with the bike not being able to make the sideways movement it does on the road
  9. nope - scott all the way (from 2009 the genius has a dt swiss shock i think but it aint going to fit your bike)
  10. i've got a pair in my spares cupboard. need to order some pads to get them up and running again. they actually really cool and still lighter than disk brakes they also have more stopping power in dry weather than disk brakes - but you probably wont need that unless you weigh 200kg
  11. hahaha. bad idea. when i spoke to the eu riders on epic they said DO NOT ride v's in snow. the rim heats up from the friction of braking then when it gets down into the snow, the heat causes a little bit of water to coat the rim. by the time it reaches up to the brake again it has frozen, an you have no brakes because there's no friction between the ice (on the rim) and the brake pad.
  12. well lets see them then - post them up - sharing is caring
  13. goodness!!! you wont get any decent riding up in joberg rather come to cape town - we a much nicer bunch of people
  14. we'll i'll add to cable stretch is the cables getting dirt in them vs hydraulic where you cant get dirt into. it's not a huge problem - as i said i like some aspects of both and i ride bikes with disks and v's. i hated disks in the begining, but when you get them set up properly they can be very sweet
