  7. Hi George MTB I did say that I could not ride the sandy bits, as well as the fact that I do not like walking. Therefore we are in agreement. I do however feel that some of the complaints has got nothing to do with riding the bike, like language issues and the like. Also, I think the organisers got the message about the route and we should encourage them to go ahead with the event for the future. It was after all their first attempt! Regards
  8. Hi there. Back to normal after a great holiday. About this race and the organisation the following: First of all I would like to say that I go to Struisbaai a lot, but I am an out-of-towner. I met Naas in December 2012 when he took myself and a few other guys on MTB rides to show us some of the routes. We also did the Anuysberg ride, but without the sandy bit. What a nice ride on a mtb. He did this on his own time and I immediately knew this guy just loves the sport. 1. I agree the CSA license fee was a mistake, but easily rectified next year. 2. The route was great in my book for the first 45 km. The Anuysberg decent, which people moan about, should be handled by MTB'ers that ride the longer endurance events. If you cannot handle that, I think you should have done the 30 km's. The part on the beach was great especially in the mist. From there to the "Witpad" was unrideable for the average biker, myself included. I do not mind getting of for a sandy patch, but this was pushing all the way for the average guy. I don't like walking, otherwise I would have done the Comrades instead - I am a "cyclist"!!! The part from the top of the "Witpad" to Struisbaai was also to sandy. I have to say that I ride these routes in the winter without a problem. In summer though, it is not a good idea, for you get a lot of "waaisand" in the jeeptrack that makes it unrideable. 3. Coming back to the 30 km "funride" for the less technical, the last bit was also a problem and completely to difficult for funriders because of the sand. For the rest and taking into consideration that it was their first attempt, I think this was great. We need a race that time of the year in Struisbaai. I also did the 35 km funride at the Black Oystercatcher winefarm a week later, as well as the race in Hartenbos. We are all on holiday and need some inspiration to stay on the bike. So Naas you and everybody that worked hard to organise the event, keep on doing it and we (real mountain bikers) will see you next year again! I was involved in the organisation of the Langkloof MTB Challenge in 2013 for the first time, and now know, that not to many people know what goes into the organising of such an event. Get the route to be more fun and this race will even get bigger. Regards Marius
  9. Hi Naas Ek sal daar wees. Watter kant toe ry ons? Marius
  10. Remember, you can still enter for this one. Also late entries on Friday and Saturday morning before the race!
  11. One week to go!
  12. I think this topic will never produce a clear cut answer. If you want to buy a new bike, buy a 29'er without question. I can't speak for the all the "kortgatte" (1.6 and smaller) for who the 650B can make sense. If however if you own a high spec 26'er that you do not want to give away for no money or even worse, can't sell it, consider the 650B. I did it and just love the feel of the bike. In other words, not an option for the entry level 26'er as a conversion option and definitely not an option for a new purchase! Finish and klaar!!!!!
  13. Die organiseerders is baie tevrede met die belangstelling in hierdie nuwe toevoeging tot die MTB kalender!
  14. Maybe the Fox forks can take higher than 2.1, but DT Swiss can only take 2.1. The availability of 650B tyre's might be seen then as a possible drawback?
  15. Thank's Eldron for the advice. The Ritchey's was used as they make a better fit for the fork and it's dimensions. (Apparently) What tyre would you use for this conversion?
