  1. Nope. From Jhb. Everything is relatively flat here. Even a 36:15 is fine for normal road riding. But, for an event like the Van Gaalen's 75 or Hakahana 75, it wouldn't be advisable to higher than 2:1 ... some challenging climbs on those races. The pic shows the 44:21 setup for the Juma race; after that I got a bling green chain and the new 36 for the front.
  2. Since the photo was taken, I have a replaced the front rings with a 36. Rear is a 17 from the cluster.
  3. In the days before gumtree the same scams happened with IOL and Junkmail classifieds (still do..). I hope that this doesn't become a gumtree- bashing forum. I, for one am happy that there are these free classified sites available, that help me get rid of excess "stuff". The onus is on the seller to make sure he / she doesn't get scammed. I've had the same experiences as most of the folks ranting here - just haven't been caught. Usually 1 out of every 5 respondents to an ad is a scammer - they never phone, but prefer sms's. The bank will always verify if it's a cheque or not. If in doubt, then ask them to verify that the funds are cleared and immediately available. And never, never, never... I repeat: NEVER, hand the articles over until the cash is in hand. I've had one cheque bounce because of insufficient funds and another was deposited which was in fact part of a bunch of cheque books that were lost in a Cash-in-transit robbery. IMHO, I believe that cheques should be outlawed anyway. It's nothing more than an I.O.U.
  4. Smolster, then this should be easy for you. I do around 80 on Saturday or Sunday and a couple of lengths in the pool in the week. The 2 or 3 weeks prior to Sani2C, I did around 100km ( on the road - Bedfordview to Samrand and back ) on either the Sat or Sun, and had plenty to spare at Sani. Somebody here mentioned the Honda Mountain challenge.. you can use that as a a gauge - I don't know if you did it, but that is a very flat ride and can be completed in around 4 to 4 1/2 hrs. Magalies has a few climbs and should easily be done in 5, given your mileage that you've done.
