  1. Anybody any experience with the FSA or Stylo Carbon cranks? What component setup do you run with them, does the Truvativ need SRAM? I assume FSA can run with any Shimano derailers and ringset......
  2. I didn't follow the Medscheme race setup so I have no idea where the riders started for Sunday's final leg. Excluding that less than kind section after Blue Berry farm to past Pniel there is a MASSIVE yellow line area. The roads weren't closed, it's Sunday and hundreds of people are heading to Franschoek. But for all that is holy, the yellow line still seems like Crypronite to some roadies! The people were cruising down the backside of Helshoogte in the middle of the lefthand lane, they weren't even riding in a bunch, so no excuses for lack of space. Come on guys, just because you paid your entry fee and have your spandex cladding on doesn't make you immune against a two ton four wheeler. For once I have to applaud a truckload of motorist that were exceptionally patient with less than bright cyclists.
  3. anybody keen for a lazy ride in Jonkershoek tonight? will probably be cold and rain as well....
  4. Agreed, my intention was not to burn Coolheat ( oxymoron if ever there was one! ) but to find out it you will receive warrantee backup locally which you are entitled too if you bought it from a registered dealer regardless of location, not just shimano, same for sram/truvativ/ fox/ rockshock etc etc.
  5. thanks Lefty, seems to be the most complete answer we'll get on this topic.
  6. Joe point taken, would be great to have actual response from the importers on this topic. Again, the fine print of the warrantee states International warrantee. It onlym points out that the product need to bought from a registered dealer, if that dealer was in Hong Kong or Boksburg shouldn't make any difference, ultimately the defective part goes back to producer not the importer or distributor.
  7. this topic has been dealt with before, and honesty I am probaly not the best person to ask, shipping is free for purchase above 250 pounds ( weight restrictions apply ) as for the tax,,, I'm am still in the dark there, when I look on their site, the price stated is the price asked all inclusive, South Africa falls outside the EU and is tax exempt. When it arrives on SA shores I have no idea how it's dealt with, seeing that it falls under sporting goods, which is tax exempt as well!! double wammy it would seem. Hopefully someone with first hand experience will enlighten us.
  8. Agreed, I spoke to two importers of bikes ( no names ) both admitted they would actually love to see a online retailer selling, but agreements with lbs restrict them from allowing this, for obvious reasons. Derek don't be silly a factory will never sell directly to me! LOL Realities people, we all work hard for our cash and SA Randt is not exactly currency of choice, so heck if you can get bits and pieces you need for your addiction at a grand less, then I for one am not going to cry myself to sleep at night over guilt.
  9. No one is taking anything from the local shop owner, reality is we can buy stuff overseas, we all know poeple that jet in and out weekly, you don't even get taxed on sporting goods new or used. The reality is we aren't exactly spoilt for choice, and definitely not spoilt for price, wait till we find a bikeshop in Singapore willing to sell and ship!!!!
  10. I must say Chris Willemse has kept up, I first visited his store in late 1980's when he was oppsite the Telkom tower in downtown Bellville. Problem with the online retail you are pointing out is that there is no advantage in using it, I might as well go to my lbs, and get the gear the same day, rather than hoping the post office delivers in 5 days. The true online version is similar to Amazon, there is no physical shop, a warehouse somewhere in the industrial area houses the gear, hence no shop rentals, overheads and staff.... savings..... passed on to end consumer. CWonline XTR 960 R3500 / Chainreactioncycles XTR 960 R2700 Shipping exactly the same 4 working days.
  11. I have been looking at buying gear from chainreaction and Jensons, out of costing point of view it makes sense. Does anyone know what the fineprint says when importing lets say XTR components and it gives hassles? Is coolheat still liable to uphold the international warranty? The company that imports Apple had a similar run in when they refused to honour the companies International warranty, the warranty only stated the product had to be bought from a registered dealer, no mention was made that repairs or warranties can only be done in the country of purchase, and they are forced to serviced any Apple product regardless where it was bought if it's still under warranty. Another thing, why are we the only country in the world where you can't buy cycling hardware and bicycles for that matter on a website?
  12. Bizarre how a topic and person like OB keeps everyone occupied..........
  13. ok The visual is starting to appear and it seems slightly worrying.
  14. does someone have a pic of this classy character??
  15. yep that makes sense
  16. how do you adjust your derailer that it only covers the two rings? just shorten it to the point where it only covers those two.....
  17. I have noticed a lot of the pro's riding with two ring drivetrain, obviously throwing off the granny. Do you actually buy it as is or is it something a bikeshop does for you? what would be the benefit of this?
  18. my point exactly.
  19. the boook taught you well.
  20. no one is writing Hendrik off, the question was why Burry's not seen as a strong contender in main stream media.
  21. not to bad at all
  22. ouch! would have been so more effective if you didn't make such a hash of spelling embarrassment! Cornelis2008-08-22 09:08:34
  23. you don't have to think, it is cheating, as stated, oh about ten times before. Funny thing that tiananmen square, quite hilarious little misunderstanding.
  24. oh gosh. please read carefully what I wrote, i never said they should be let of the hook, or that they were right, so jump of the high and mighty horse for a second. They should be stripped of their medal if found guilty. period. my point was and still is, I believe it's a arbitary rule/ law, whatever you want to call it, to make a point you will understand, the only reason "big lungs" aren't elligle is because they haven't said so, cheating implies, deceiving others to obtain a advantage. so cutting off your willy, that gives you a unfair advantage over other women, using steroids, ditto. having two underaged athletes, what advantage did that give? other than they were better athletes than any of the other options, and the point of the olympics is to ,,, wait,,, to reward the BEST ATHLETE. So Willehond, just as the rule was changed from 14 to 16, it could be revised to 14, cheating and breaking the rules should always be punished, but don't just accept the status que like a good boy wothout question.
  25. think the original post was meant for last saturday, not tomorrow. what distance do you want to do?
