Event Name: Renosterbos MTB & Trail Run When: 7 September 2013 Where: Barrydale, Western Cape Category: MTB Renosterbos now qualifying WP race For immediate release The fifth Renosterbos Mountain Bike Challenge will be held on Saturday, 7 September at Barrydale. The 71 km route is an important event on the mountain bike calendar, because it is the only qualifying race for Western Province colours this year. Other options include: a shorter route of 35 km, a trail run of 13 km and a fun ride for children. The single track route has all the elements that make it one of the most scenic rides on offer. Vegetation varies from renosterbos and a wide variety of Karoo succulents in the lowlands to fynbos in the foothills of the Langeberg. Besides klipspringer, steenbuck and duiker, participants may see kudu. According to the organisers, riders will encounter water and shale on the course. Enough water and other refreshments will be served along the route, and everyone who finishes the race will receive a medal. The race provides the ideal family outing, with Barrydale Wine Cellar serving as the centre of activities. The day will kick off with a hearty breakfast prepared by the Kokkedoor cooks of KykNet fame. There will also be a variety of market stalls, a kids’ corner with entertainment and a 3 km fun ride for children. For those who want to stay over, numerous accommodation options are available. Net vir Pret, a local non-profit organisation, will be the beneficiary of this year’s Renosterbos Mountain Bike Challenge. The organisation runs after-school and holiday programme activities for learners from underprivileged communities, including craft, art and dance classes; reading and sports programmes; and a popular toy library.
