  1. Update: For the last few weeks I've actively avoided gluten/wheat products.... The situation seems much more managable now, I can ride for miles on end with maybe just 1 episode as opposed to every couple of minutes. Its progresively getting better even had a few rides with no slime what so ever. So thanks for the advice!
  2. Mmmm never considered that, this rip looks quite bad and the tire its is swollen. With my luck at Jimmying things back to life I'm probably better off buying a new tire, struggling to get hold of the tire and the fact that they cost a price of a small farm isn't helping. Has anyone got experience with specialized ground control as a front tire? The guy @ revolution cycles says they sought of "similarly specked" to the Schwalbe Racing Ralphs
  3. will pm them the details. could a really injured my self at the speed I was comming down at, but if I'm honest I would rather take some bumps and bruises than damage to bike
  4. I've come across this in the past I think another hubber got injured bailing out on the same stretch of single track due to logs. be it dog walkers or jackers these people seem to be oblivious to the damage they cause, as swipes! are kandui, pain and shine on some kind of commity?
  5. I don't know if it was jackers but in both cases it was neatly placed clean stumps, I highly doubt it fell off a tree... it had to be placed there by someone, was riding at night though so there was no one in sight... I ggot the bike with these tires, anyone know where I can old of them and how they cost
  6. This is the second time this week that I've nearly seriously injured my self due to large logs suspiciously place across the Table Mountain trails. The first was Monday, placed on the single track come out of the enterance of Deer Park And the second one took out my tire this evening comming downhill from the big tree at Table mountain road just after the river before the old quarry turn off. Neatly place arround on of the bends! A nice tear right down the side wall Is this sort of damage reparable or Im gona have to fork a couple of half a grand for a new tire, its tubless Schwalbe Racing Ralph tires. http://gilaoss.co.za/images/IMG_4849.JPG http://gilaoss.co.za/images/IMG_4854.JPG
  7. This is not the kinda thing you can just spit out, its like cement lining my throat! Will give the carbs/wheat thing a go, occasionally I do chow a jungle oats bar before riding don't know if that counts but even without that I'll have the same problem. Will also try to use a different drink while I ride any have any suggestions?
  8. Haha glad that I'm the not only with this problem or the only one with an affinity for Sterri stumpies B-).... I've read about the dairy product thing, yesterday I had like one cup of coffee in the morning and the rest of the day was just a few glasses of water a power aid and a coke... I had to stop like there like times due that nauseating feeling even with the electrolyte tablets. I'ts weird cause its not like I feel particularly exhausted when it happens my breathing and heart rate is reasonable. I sorta assumed that it was just saliva drying up due breathing through my mouth, tried the whole in through the nose out through the mouth but that's way to much work!
  9. Hi, For a long time I've had a massive problem slime build up in my throat while ridding, its a nauseating type of slime build up that forces you to stop and wait for it to dissipate. I've made a point to drink loads of water of days that I ride, yesterday I had about 2 liters and still have the same issue. I've started ridding with electrolyte tablets to see if it helps, but no cigar Anyone experienced this, is it something you typically seek medical attention for?
  10. Yo have a specialized marathon mtb lost my brain fade switch out on one of the trails. Can that little adjuster be easily replaced?
  11. If you thinking Rhodes then Deer Park might be an option I've seen a few guys do it. Just be prepared for some evil eyes Last time tired to take my dog to Silvermine/Tokai/Elephants Eye I was told I need a permit which I'm still trying to get my hands on.
  12. Oh yeah! Its a Medium Specialized Epic. Its dimensions are not far off the frame I've currently got.So I won't need to swop out the stem but the seat post has a slight offset so Ill have to get hold of a standard one but otherwise it should fit nicely.
  13. I've manage to get my hands on a Specialized FS MTB for next to nothing. Only problem is the bike might not be the right size for me, I'm comfortable on anything from 15.5" - 18" frame and my height is 1.68m (if memory serves)... The bike I'm looking at will definitely b a larger frame, would I be able to compassionate for the increased size with a shorter stem or am I just going to do more damage to my riding ability by getting a frame that is to big. Hopefully Ill be able to take it for a test run next week, will post some more detail.
  14. Yep the very tippy-top. Too bad so sad, I imagine that would be quite something on a bike. Not that I would tempt it but are there any legal ramifications of making it to the top with a bike if it was at all possible?
  15. Yo, Is there route from Deer park that can take you to the very top of table mountain?
  16. These are the bikes I'm looking at Avalanche ATX 250 http://www.bicycling.co.za/bike-buyers-guide/atx-250/ Avalance ATX Stride 20 http://www.bicycling.co.za/bike-buyers-guide/stride-20/ This one however has Shimano M375 Mechanical Disc Brakes, I've read that Modern Machanical brakes can often be almost as good as Hyrdraulic brakes. Does this fall under that category.
  17. Its worth mentioning that I dont want to do extremely technical trails, just some relatively easy offroad trails and maybe some road biking
  18. Thanks, will have a look axis I'm looking to spend anything from 2000 - 3000 on a bike.
  19. Hi Noob here. I'm interested in getting into Mountain biking. I want to go pick up a bike next week sometime, what would be a good option to start with... I've been reading that Hardtails are a good beginners options, any advice on which ones to get and where to buy. Im in CPT.
