  1. Try the Enervit range, it is availble at Dunkeld, Northcliff and Cylelab and dischem, use the enervit G for shorter rides and a mixture of Enervit G and Enervitene(carboloader) for a longer ride or stage racing. Enervit has been around for like 35yrs, they know what they are doing.
  2. Santa C, i would look at a rechargeable light, something that will atleast put out 220 lumen+ (lumen in my opinion is really the only light output meausre to compare lights) for offroad use. using anything that uses normal batteries is not going to provide enough light. look at carrying a spare battery with you to get the allocated time you are looking for or turn you light off when you dont need it or ride off you partners lights. however in a technical section you are going to need a decent light to stay upright. I did Trans Baviaans 2 years back and i was grateful for having decent lights, especially in the country as there is virtually no light pollution out there.
  3. Go for a Knog Gator 605 cant beat the brightness at the price, retails at R3300 and pushes out 750 lumens www.knog.com.au, no tools to attach and battery life is 3.5hrs, with a charge time of less than 3hrs, total package weighs 500g I'll admit i'm a bit bias being Knog's Brand manager but i'll take any comparitive debates on their effectiveness, or our support of the product in S.A which is also something you must take into account(back-up and spare parts availabilty)
