  1. SECONDHAND BICYCLES RSA Worth watching these pages along with marketplace and gumtree.
  2. Jessie is a mountain biker, swimmer, dogwalker and horse rider in Tokai/Silvermine And I realise the earlier issue was NOT cars but rather dogs, but I was replying to 'pain and shine'#21, my thought process obviously needs to be spelt out more clearly! If on tar you are (should be) expecting cars and therefore should be riding with due caution and therefore if a dog/person/car or anthing else is in your way while descending you should be able to control your bike in an appropriate manner. I think this thread is pretty dead now
  3. The original post of this thread says that they WERE ON the TAR road so therefore you should be expecting vehicles on this road!!!!!!!!
  4. Maybe you dont quite understand, as you did not highlight/read the whole sentence? As you say you compare yourself with the people you ride with and not the whole group of people riding the "race". My choice, at this point in time, to not be a PPA member, Yes. But it is not PPA who does the timeing mats, not my choice that the times of all riders is not being recorded, but things could change if there was enough incentive to do so.
  5. This may be a wild goose chase but here goes anyway! A friend of mine lost her glasses (Sunday evening). Somewhere on the gravel road between the car park at the gate to the Ou Wa Pad. If anyone finds them, please hand in at the office and the entrance, or contact me. Thanks.
  6. Coming from a dog-walker, horse-rider and mountain-biker. Dogs are allowed in Silvermine off the lead. Would this debate be going on if the 'dogs and ladies' were a Telskum bakkie? My guess is, NOT! As someone said before on this tread, ride as fast as you can see and stop safely. Live and let live and ride respectfully and what is wrong with going a little slower anyway.
  7. That is not the point. I am already paying extra so why not record the time, I know it costs them for the recording but add into the extra payment fee if they want to. As I said before there are many non=PPA riders and therefore the results are not an accurate reflection of a riders performance. Also if PPA involved one expects certain standards of accurate length of ride and good safe clear signage.
  8. I am glad to see others rant about this ride. I did the 30km mtb ride - start was later than advertised, it cost R160 because of PPA involvement. 10km of the ride was on tar!!! Not great at all! Poorly marked course. Only about 15km of good true mountain bike track. I then did the motorbike event in the afternoon, R195 for 60km of excellently marked track all in wonderful areas. Ok there were hectic sections, of which there were warnings and could be avoided if you wanted to. But I feel the value for money is much better at all the motorbike events I have been to. With markings all the way and warnings of every left and right turns and dangerous areas clearly marked. Why do we have to be penalized for not being PPA members and then still not getting our times recorded? It is also not giving PPA members an accurate account of their own performance by excluding non-PPA members. I last did this ride last in 2002 and there were many many more cyclists doing the road ride. Why don't the organizers realise that it would be better to charge R50 pp and get a whole family involved in the ride, and having a weekend in the town spending money on accommodation and food, etc. At R140-R160 pp it is just too expensive if you have a family and therefore, the whole town looses out. And if PPA is involved they should then ensure correct/adequate marking of the route and the correct length of the course stated, before the start of the ride.
