  6. The Aim of the Flap Away Campaign Hundreds of cyclists in Gauteng join together to enjoy a ride to the Cradle of Human Kind every weekend. After a number of accidents involving the 574 Swareflex Lane Dividers situated on the D540 and D374, it is felt that safety is being compromised. The aim of the Flap Away Campaign is to gain as much support as possible to have these removed. Why are the ‘flappers’… a problem? While the initial intension was to improve safety for cyclists on this busy route it has fallen short of expectations. This has resulted in some nasty pile ups. Furthermore, limited space does not allow for two cyclists to ride abreast enabling them to stay within the cycling lane. A large number of the ‘flappers’ are broken and difficult to see. What we need from you, the cyclist We need your support in removing these hazards. Please click on the following Google link http://goo.gl/forms/ZCI4cFNJka and complete the survey. In order for the campaign to succeed, we need as much support as possible. Spread the word, share the information with club members and friends as well as ‘like’ and ‘share’ our Facebook page – ‘Flap Away’. Testimonials regarding incidents or accidents that have occurred will add impetus to our initiative. The campaign will also endeavour to gain the support and backing of the local media. In order to have the necessary impact, this campaign needs to be finalised as soon as possible. Further queries can be sent to Megan Thorpe at meganthorpe@netactive.co.za. Together, let’s strive to make cycling safer in the Cradle!
  7. I use a cardiologist at Flora Clinic who has studies sports science at UCT under Prof Nokes as well, Dr Rob Tager. Awesome guy and good luck.
  8. We ride Tuesday to Friday the same route as the Engen to Engen guys just a bit slower, the group leaves from the parking lot of Virgin Bryanston at 4:50.
  9. Very very unlikely that they will cancel the CTCT, the city will loose millions in revenue.
  10. My question is simple, what was the person doing that took the photo. I hope he was stopped and if so the group had just overtaken him. If you look to the front of the group they are moving back to the left. Also is it not possible that because of all the slower riders in the cradle at the moment that the group had over taken the person with the camera at the ready but also saw a very slow group up ahead. Also look clearly at the people in the group, they are not a CycleLab group but a group with a few Cyclelab riders.
  11. The weather looks great for Saturday, near perfect actually. Morning temp 12 with a with NE wind of 12km/h slowing to 7km/h during the day.
  12. I went to this website www.jrwendys.co.za and left a message for the owner that I will never support his business and we will spread the word. I suggest we all add the pressure.
  13. This is exactly our point, a cyclist does not have to stay in the yellow line, the cyclist has equal rights to occupy a entire lane. The motorcyclist (HD) rider has to wait behind or overtake you when it is safe to do so.
  14. I was in AL as well am the road surface was shocking, I hit a pothole on the decent after 22km which punctured the front and back wheels. Damaged my back rim but I could finish the first stage. Did some repairs at the stop and continued from there. I was personally disappointed with the organisation of the event. ASG Sports managed to lower the standard even further. That food they served for lunch was really poor, not that I was in the mood to eat. We paid for two Spectator packages in the luxury bus at R400 a pop, as you all saw it was a taxi and the drivers were not briefed on what was expected from them. In my opinion ASG Sports needs to get their act together if they want to charge the premium R750 for the event. ASG Sports is not helping the Bestmed brand either.
