As one of our previous riders aptly put it, for this trip we need the sun, moon and stars to be in line! What she meant was that climate, tides and complex logistics dictate when we should take on the Wild Coast. 21. Event Name: 1000 Hills Day Adventures - Om Die Dam - Nagle When: 6 August 2016 Where: Inanda Valley, Kwazulu-Natal Category: MTB Riding in the Valley of 1000 Hills is usually restricted by being inaccessible and inhospitable for riders without adequate logistical support. With an experienced crew and suitable support vehicle Detour Trails Day Adventures makes the unusual & spectacular Valley trails accessible. 6th August - OM DIE DAM – Round Nagle Dam – approx 45km This ride is not long, but will take a long time, so is best taken on by the explorer type mountain biker who doesn’t mind the occasional walk or river swim. Parts of the riding is on trails which are seldom if ever ridden by mountain bikers (apart from us) as we ride natural trails used by locals to access some remote kraals and villages. Crossing the Umgeni River above Nagle Dam is always a talking point after the ride as the crossing depends a lot on how much water is being let into the dam from upstream. In keeping with the explorer mode, we try to add a new element to each ride by checking out a previously unridden section or two. Go to Event Page
  22. Event Name: 1000 Hills Day Adventures - Mkelkhele Trail To Mfula When: 24 July 2016 Where: Inanda Valley, Kwazulu-Natal Category: MTB Riding in the Valley of 1000 Hills is usually restricted by being inaccessible and inhospitable for riders without adequate logistical support. With an experienced crew and suitable support vehicle Detour Trails Day Adventures makes the unusual & spectacular Valley trails accessible. Sun 24th July - MKELKHELE TRAIL – MFULA via UMGENI up, DUZI down – approx 55km This one is for the mountain biker who enjoys more technical trails as the route down into the valley has steep sections and follows the river over some nice rocky bits. Once in the valley it follows the Umgeni River on some slick rock before joining single track and dirt road all the way to Mfula. It’s not that far, but is sure to put a smile on everyone’s faces. 23. Event Name: 1000 Hills Day Adventures - Bishopstowe To Mfula When: 18 June 2016 Where: Inanda Valley, Kwazulu-Natal Category: MTB Riding in the Valley of 1000 Hills is usually restricted by being inaccessible and inhospitable for riders without adequate logistical support. With an experienced crew and suitable support vehicle Detour Trails Day Adventures makes the unusual & spectacular Valley trails accessible. at 18th June - BISHOPSTOWE – MFULA (via The Mother) – approx 60km Whenever the Mother is mentioned, riders will know that there’s at least one huge climb with max gradient of 25%, so this is not an easy ride. The route starts by following the Duzi River, diverts away joining the Umgeni which it follows upstream for a while before the climb to the Mother (yes, a climb to a climb!). Once at the top of this beastly climb, the rewards are many. The 360 view is unsurpassed anywhere else in the valley and the descent is enough to bring a smile to any fun loving enduro rider. This is for the marathon and expedition riders to test their fitness. Go to Event Page
  24. Event Name: 1000 Hills Day Adventures - Nagle To Mfula When: 16 June 2016 Where: Inanda Valley, Kwazulu-Natal Category: MTB Riding in the Valley of 1000 Hills is usually restricted by being inaccessible and inhospitable for riders without adequate logistical support. With an experienced crew and suitable support vehicle Detour Trails Day Adventures makes the unusual & spectacular Valley trails accessible. Thurs 16th June – NAGLE – MFULA STORE – approx 50km This is a relatively easy to moderate ride following sections of both the Duzi and Umgeni Rivers, but is not flat or just following the rivers downstream. While generally following the rivers, the route crosses them, runs away from them and back, so there’s a fair amount of short sharp climbing to access the best trails. The trail mix is single track sculpted by locals and their animals and dirt road. Go to Event Page
  25. Event Name: 1000 Hills Day Adventures - Thuthuka To Thuthuka When: 28 May 2016 Where: Inanda Valley, Kwazulu-Natal Category: MTB Riding in the Valley of 1000 Hills is usually restricted by being inaccessible and inhospitable for riders without adequate logistical support. With an experienced crew and suitable support vehicle Detour Trails Day Adventures makes the unusual & spectacular Valley trails accessible. Sat 28th May - THUTHUKA – THUTHUKA – approx 40km This is a relatively mild introduction to the Valley of 1000 Hills for the more recreational rider who is not afraid of the occasional river crossing and some tricky pony and goat trails. The route mostly follows the Duzi River, so avoids long hard climbs. The trail mix is mainly natural animal track with a little dirt road and even a spot of tar Go to Event Page
