  1. Hello Lou, It's not limited to Android. But at R1000 for the cheapest Android phone, it's cheap enough to buy one just for track logging and navigation. Symbian / Nokia: I know a few people who got it working. If you have one, I could try to help you with it, but I have no first hand experience. Garmin: Fairly easy on those map capable devices which are than just a SatNav. Regards, Nic
  2. Recently a long list of Android phones with builtin GPS receivers have hit the market at very attractive price points. At the same time a number of OSM applications have been released for them. An extensive list of mountainbiking and cycling routes have been contributed to OSM during the last couple of years. On 26 March, we can show you how to use these phones for recording your tracks, calculating routes and a variety of other uses. When: Saturday March 26th, 10am - 4pm. Come and go as you please. Where: Karoo Cattle and Land, Irene Mall, Centurion Contact: nroets@gmail.com or call 083-765-9503 RSVP by email. It's optional, but strongly recommended. Please state your estimated time of arrival.
  3. Hello, This tool may solve the all too common problem of explaining exactly which piece of single track you are referring to. It's based on OpenStreetMap data, which has a growing database of offroad trails, thanks to a few locals. Van Gaalens If anyone here wants to use OpenStreetMap on his GPS, please tell me. There is a solution for all devices except Tom Tom. Regards, Nic
  4. Just thought that some of you may be interested in a list of websites where you can get exercise routes. I've listed them from good to bad. The first 2 have lots of features, like editing, elevation contours etc. http://www.gpsies.com/ http://www.bikemap.net/ Nokia Sports Tracker (popular) http://www.gps-sport.net/ http://www.mapmyride.com/ http://www.everytrail.com/ http://wikiloc.com/ http://gpsed.com/ http://www.mapmytracks.com/ http://www.track-n-share.com http://www.magnalox.net/
  5. Thx to everyone who are sharing their rides on sportstracker. There are some excellent routes on there. I've been working on a map that can be used for cycling / mountain biking. http://openstreetbugs.appspot.com/?lon=28.24731381133336&lat=-25.900366268344623&zoom=14 Here is Fort Klapperkop with elevation contours : http://openstreetmap.org/?lat=-25.77924&lon=28.21217&zoom=15&layers=00B0FTF gebruiker2008-12-25 02:15:14
