I think they need to look at creating a few more options for the visiting cyclists. I live locally so it doesn't bother me much that its cancelled, I can go ride the route tomorrow. But for cyclists from out of town and overseas its a problem, and they'll probably opt for another race given the uncertainty of the race being blown out/blocked/shortened each year. I suggest they look at putting on another event on Sat and maybe even Friday that cyclists can optionally participate in, thus making it enticing as a full weekend of cycling. How about a timed CTCT hill climb for riders on Sat morning or maybe some crits on fri evening. The guys need to offer more for cyclists who are here enjoying the festivities.
I see the cycletour seeding site looks up to date: http://seeding.cycletour.co.za. Anyone have an idea of which start groups match the seeding index range based on last year's groups? I fear I'm slipping backwards this year...
I think a lot depends on whether MTN stays at Pro-Conti level. If they move up to World Tour then there is no need for him to go elsewhere, given access to all the top races. That said, there doesn't seem to be any shortage of invites this year..
- Don't forget the 6th place, and young rider jersey in Tour of Oman in 2015. First time been I've really excited about an SA rider since Burry Stander was with us. Provided he remains injury free, I can seriously see him on a grand tour podium within 3 or 4 years. Hopefully MTN can hang on to him..
Thanks Lizard. Jeepers, sounds like its quite a sprint to get over the first hill. Starting to k@k off now. Rode on the old Hels last wkend and its not in very good shape so that won't make it any easier.....
I'm a newbie to the race starting in C. Any advice on the best strategy? i.e. Hang on up Helshoogte and stay with bunch till the end? Or does the race break up on the last few hills before Stellies?
