  1. Who would be interested in doing Hill climb races in and around the Durbanville area?
  2. I am a junior and I regularly compete in mtb races thoughout South Africa. Being a junior, by law I may only enter races under 55km in distance. This means that most times I end up racing in the 'half marathon' distance. The Half marathon usually starts 5 minutes after the last batch in the long distance, thus us 'racing snakes' catch the back markers of the long distance 60km race. We are racing and thus need to get past as quick as possible this isnt always easy when there is alot of single track. We always try to get past in the most respectful way possible, despite this we often get shouted and and/or swore at . So I am suggesting that the order in which mtb races should start should be as follows: Elite men (long route) Elite women (long route) Junior men (short route) junior women (short route) batch B (long route) batch C (long route) Batch D (long route) Batch B (Short route) Batch C (short route) Batch D (short route) what do you think?
  3. Hi everyone I have a powertap G3 (older version.) I think that it needs a firmware update but I cant seem to get it right to do it. does anyone know of a place in Cape Town area that would be able to help me out? Thanks
  4. Hi everyone I have written an article about SA XCO champs you can check it out here: http://www.bicycling.co.za/jamies-blog/sa-xco-champs-wrap/
  5. Thank you so much for making this event I am definitely going to be racing and I cant wait!
  6. Thank you so much for your input I truly appreciate it I would only be able to plan an overseas trip a but closer to next year as the icu is yet to announce the category of specific races and hows events have not given out any dates yet. As soon as I get this into I will post a new thread
  7. Thanks very much and how much do other podium positions get?
  8. Is the R30 000 prize money for the record breaker for the fastest team or could an individual also win it?
  9. Hi everyone thank you so much for your input I really appreciate it. I am going to use everyone's advise except for the parts about stopping cycling. Unfortunately I am not using Strava anymore as I have gotten a power meter and I dont want people to see all my numbers for obvious reasons.
  10. Thanks very much I am hopefully going to race next year so I will take up the offer if I can race.
  11. Hi thanks for the message. I dont really have a twitter account but here is a link to instagram and face book: https://www.facebook.com/jamie.penfold.92 https://www.facebook.com/JamiePenfoldATHLETE/ https://www.instagram.com/its_jamie_penfold/?hl=en
  12. Thanks For the messages @jewbacca and @Rudi-h. Most of my racing is xco I am ranked second in the SA Cup series and I came second at SA champs. However, XCO is now finished for the year and marathon races are sometimes a good place to earn a few extra buck I am the current SA marathon Champion and I jave won the Western cape marathon series for the last 3 year's. The reason for needing the extra money is that I am saving up to race overseas next year in order to gain experience as well as vital uci points. Thanks very much for everyones input
  13. Thanks very much for the reply! I was thinking more marathon races 30-60km as I am u/16
  14. Hi guys and girls I am a mountain biker and would like to know what races in the western cape offer good prize money to the podium finishers. Thanks
  15. Hi everyone I think that there is plenty of potential world class mtb riders in SA. However most Juniors aren't given the chance to shine as most XCO racing happens in Europe, and with South Africa's current economy it is very difficult for the average South African to race overseas because of the enormous costs involved. I would like to create a small XCO team that gives talented young riders in the junior category (age 17-18) the opportunity to race overseas and gain experience. This will however cost money, but I am sure that a company that invests in a team like this will more than get back what they put into the team. I am looking for advice from people who either know of a potential sponsor or who would like to give input into the organisation , creation and management of the team. You could contact me either via pm(personal message) or by email: jamiepenfold3@gmail.com i would appreciate any help that I can get. Thanks from Jamie and happy cycling!
