  1. Thanks for the tip, but I managed to get some attention after about ten emails and four calls to the race office Got my 'racing age group' start time and hope to do a good race! Will fill my bidons in Norway before flying to SA, wash myself with wet-wipes, and primarily drink beer while visiting!
  2. ok super - thanks for the info Wish they took the time to put some more information on the web-site.
  3. Thanks for the info. emailing with the race office has so far been a fairly detrimental experience... a Yes I have a UCI masters racing licence - sent it to them now. Clearly not much priority given to seeding internationals unfortunately Anyhos looking forward to it - hope to replicate the great experience I had four years ago. I filmed the last hour of my race in 2014, and happened to cycle quite a stretch together with Anriette Shoeman as seen in the video I posted back then: http://bit.ly/2nUBz9i
  4. Hi. Norwegian participant here and having trouble getting answers from the race office so I thought perhaps someone here at the forum might know! Question: in the CTCT start-list there is a category called "racing age group" which starts before the regular seeded groups 1A etc. What is this? Is this what previously was called VA (or something) for master racers? Asking because I am trying to get correct seeding in the race, which isn't easy as an international participant... particularly with lack of information on the web-site. I am a pretty competitive cyclist and also Norwegian national masters champion 40y+. Participated in the Argus in 2014 (then I was put in "A" and placed 2nd) but that result is now too old to result in any meaningful auto-seeding. thanks
  5. yeah - if that guy to my right had moved 5cm more in front of me I would have eaten that fence for lunch!
  6. And I made a follow-up video with some cycling in Cape Town, Franschoek, and south of Gordon's Bay. Here.
  7. I posted this perhaps in the wrong place on the forum so reposting here: Filmed the last hour of my Cape Argus race from a Gopro on my bike. Was in the lead group of the 6:24 start and finished in the front group. The video starts from Misty Cliffs Bay (I think its called) and stops just after the finishing sprint. Description and link to the video on my blog here: martinhoff.com All the best from Norway

I finally got around to uploading my gopro footage from the last hour of the race. I was in the front group for the 6:24 start (V's, A and elite ladies) including the sprint finish. See my blog post (in English!) with the video here: martinhoff.com All the best from Norway

First-timer from Norway (and got some advice on these forums a couple of weeks back) and had a great experience! What an amazing event! :-) Rode in A group and placed 2nd in it with 2:50. Woman winner Cherise Stander on my wheel as we crossed the finish-line narrowly avoiding the two guys next to me who went down just before the line. Unfortunately i was bunched in by the fence in the sprint. I filmed the last hour, including Chapman's, Suikerboisse and the final sprint, which I'll get up on my blog martinhoff.com when I get back to Norway. Got a few pictures out last night - including my selfie with Stephen Roche after the race! Question: The guys on motorbicycles filming - where can some of the footage be seen? Is it on the internet somewhere, or is it a local tv-channel?

Thanks Wez-O and Dragus for the route advice - sounds like a good plan. Yes Dragus, I'm definately ready to enjoy the SA sunshine, people, food and drink! Perhaps wait with the drinks until after the race though!

Great - thanks TALUS, Wez-O, skistart15 and walkerr! Very helpful. Yes I'm sure it will be a great experience - looking forward to it! Fingers x'd for good weather! I'm staying in Cape Town the week before the race and plan to do some training rides. Is the best to just ride south from Camps Bay (early morning perhaps)? If someone has a link to a strava route/ride which they would recommend when traning from Cape Town (staying in Camps Bay), that would be most appreciated. Thanks again. (It is, by the way, slightly challenging to prepare for the race here since its mid-winter... cycled 50k before work this morning in a Blizzard... ) http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U7kCxFP_deI/ULtRCGkOwyI/AAAAAAAAMiI/YHAdJhjAn9Q/s1600/GOPR5698.JPG

    Argus 2014

Hi all Norwegian 1st time participant traveling to SA for Cape Argus and found this forum via google. I have some questions that I couldn't manage to find answers to on the official web-site - perhaps someone here could help? After sending some results (had 18 races last year with several podiums) to the organizer they put me in "A". - What are the VB, VM, VA groups? Says "masters"? Does SA have some sort of seperate master-license system that is different from the UCI-master licenses we have in Europe? - Will the V- groups then start (with elite ladies) in the start of of the 6:24 group, and us in "A" be placed in the back? How big handicap is this? - Does the official time start when we cross the start-mat for the 6:24 field? If so then it might actually be an advantage to start in the back and move up in the field?... Sprinting to the finish-line becomes pretty meaningless then also. - Should i expect the field to move as one massive peleton the first 40-50kms, or will there be break-aways and smaller (faster) groups forming already during the first climb (Edin. dr?)? - Does anyone know how many riders are in this field (va, vm, vb, ladies, a)? Thanks for any help
