  1. Mountain biker to cross desert for terminally ill patients Sports coach and avid mountain biker Paul Jacobs, will participate as a solo participant in the Nedbank Desert Dash challenge in Namibia on 11 December. The race starts in Windhoek and finishes in Swakopmund, 369 km and 24 hours later, crossing the world’s oldest desert. His inspiration and motivation for attempting such a challenge is Abundant Life Palliative Care. Established in 2009, Abundant Life (www.abundantlifevic.org ) run by Sister Pitout and Dr Cupido, has cared for more than 1600 patients. They care for those who are terminally ill providing dignity and peace of mind for patient and family alike. Operating however on a very limited budget, they are dependant on donations and volunteers to a large degree. Currently based at Victoria hospital, their dream is to grow the organisation and establish an Abundant Life at every hospital throughout the country. Having met Sister Pitout and Dr.Cupido in person recently Paul says; “I was instantly convinced that helping them to help others would and had to be my mission. There are numerous charities out there and some enjoy more support than others for various reasons. This organisation however has touched me personally.” “In a bid to shed light on and raise funds for Abundant Life: I am embarking on what is certainly my toughest physical (and mental) challenge to date (The Desert Dash). The longest single day mtb race in the world….When I feel the urge to give up; it’s the thought of the work Abundant Life do for those in despair that will not only offer a clear perspective but motivate me to continue towards the finish line. " says Paul. A crowdfunding account where donations can be made in support of this most noble cause has been set up. Please donate and share the link with as many as possible so we can make a true difference to our fellow cyclists/compatriots and humankind in their final sprint to the finish line. All donations, big or small are very much appreciated. https://gogetfunding.com/cycling-for-abundant-life/

  3. Recently tested out the Fizik Thar saddle specifically designed for 29ers. Its a firm racing saddle that engages the correct muscle groups to ensure optimum performance. Good shock absorption and plenty room for adjustment of seat position. Best suited to the more flexible rider.
